IS News Server down?

I'm using news.is.co.za, the ip is 196.26.208.123
The other one that I offline now is news.isdsl.net, the ip is also 196.26.208.123

I'm using news.is.co.za and it is working find, didn't enter the ip adress.

Just for everyones info, both nntp.is.co.za and news.is.co.za point to the EXACT same IP address which means you cant connect to both at the same time. You can have 5 concurrent connections to the IP 196.26.208.123.

It appears that at current uncached speed, you'll take 2 to 3 days to download a movie. By the time you have finished your download, the first part of the dowload has already been overwritten in the cache and is therefore no longer cached.

Try downloading the last files first and you may get half the item at cached speeds and the rest at snails pace.

I dont think the cache will be overwritten until the retention time expires. Maybe we could start something like Openwebs Opencourier. Any1 with a free machine and an uncapped IS account?

I think this is a good idea, perhaps the uploader can put it under the comments and others can add comments as to where they are starting.

I also have to agree with OMAC, files I've downloaded, have ended up not being cached after my download (or parts of it). Not knowing what the 'retention time' is that you refer too, logic tells me that with so many individuals downloading uncached files, something has to be 'overwritten'.

Im not sure on retention times either, think its 60days... I would have thought older, less requested "uncached" content would be first on the chopping block??
I think Openweb could make money buy using their Opencourier package for uncached downloads. :) (Stick the nzb on a machine, wait till its done and alert the user and the user can dl via http or http zip)
 
Bouncer the group download thing sounds like a plan. Is it possible to set up a section on the site when one can upload nzb's for group download?
 
What we really need is a type of torrentnzb / p2p network where the torrent incorporates the nzb. So each person downloading that nzb will get certain parts off the news server whilst sharing the rest with others and retrieving parts from them.

Wording is extremely bad,sorry... But get my drift ;)
 
So what you waiting for... Program it ;)

*EDIT: Even better, we make use of uunets ftp incoming folder ;) Each client downloads parts and gets the other parts off ftp whilst uploading their parts ;) Thus a good dl / ul speed for everyone

So if I understand this correctly, on one nzb files from international downloads, it will be split up in a few users?
So then you will only download a small part internationally and the rest would be already cached on the newsservers by the other people??
