Got this response from Imagine:

Hi XXX

Internet Solutions have outgrown there news server/ ftp server and are in the
process of upgrading the system. Please be patient as they do not yet have an ETA.

Regards

IS must provide us with a full explanation and also commit to a date this will be fixed. Whilst the service is not working they should not bill us.

i've even switched from my netgear router to the telkom router, no luck. still gettting 1.6kbs tops. :(

Must be a proudly south african upgrade, so far its been **** for 2weeks. Dont think this "upgrade" is of the highest priority to them or we have...(will get kicked of forum if i continue)

any idea how to search whats available on local cache only??i normally use newzbin for my other stuff

You must be onto something there Ziglet cause Im getting something from alt.binaries.multimedia and Im getting up and down speeds of about 80- 90kB/sec on a 4mb line. It is true. What is IS without the newsgroups? If saix had a good news server, i dont think anyone would bother with IS. Unless you take into account the 30gig you can get for + - R150 :) \

Yeah. But I guess thats still a dream. Who knows. The regulations may kick in quicker than we expect...like the day before the 2010 kickoff :D

Lets keep the updates going. So we will be in the know when and if the IS indaba turns around so we can get back to business.

ps... is there a news.isdsl.co.za? I didnt think there was. only news.is.co.za and news.isdsl.net.

I think news.isdsl. net is working again...but they have stopped you from using more than 4 connections. Maybe its not the speed that is killing the server but the amount of connections people are making to it to try and get the best speed possible. I could be wrong tho. Not an expert. speeds are fluctuating from 30 - 90 kB/s but averaging about 50kB/s. Hope this helps anyone who is following the situation.

Dead here... How can it be some people get on and others not? They punishing the 4mbit'ers?

Style, what newsreader are you using? Both servers seem to be up (and are accepting more than 4 connections at a time).

I'm not on a 4MB line but i still am only getting 0.001kb/s with 2 connections?

First time since it's lengthy absense, news server is working for me.

Yay! Hope this keeps up...

Not working for me, why did IS let the server get so bad, cant they forsee the future just a little bit, now people will cancel their accounts and they will end up loosing money, they dont even have a representative on this forum, Im kind of wondering why I support them so much

25-35kB/s here for the past 2 hours, lets hope it keeps going.

Only problem is I'm getting a large amount of errors and incomplete files - have to keep retrying in order for the file to complete.
