IS News Server down?

Well my question will be, why was it that i could access the news server no problem and download at full speed 2 months ago and now i cant?? I haven't moved, also havent changed ISP(yet). So what is causing me to all of a sudden (since 2 months ago) not be able to download at full speed?? What changed where?? Does the ISP regulate where on the IPC you connect to, so that certain people just get crappy service for the next couple of months and then after that you swap it around so that others get the crappy service??

I thank you for responding but maybe you can clear the above questions of mine.

Hi Soulburner

Just because you haven't moved, doen't mean that your ADSL route hadn't. Telkom are always changing their switching, changing exchanges, etc. This is why they have pages of conditions making sure they don't have to offer any guarantees on the ADSL network.

You may also find that, with the new 4mb options, some of the exchanges you switch through have been over saturated. They may be waiting to upgrade your exchange, so the speeds may subsequently improve. Unfortunately you will never find answers - the Telkom support staff have no idea what goes on behind the scenes...

Thanks for the answer matt .......so the moral of the storie is, its TEKSCUM as always who's causing this crap

Thank you matt156 for replying here. At least we have a clearer picture of what is actually going on.

Just a pity my favourite ISP has lost out on at least R278 this month so far from me though due to this problem.

Unfortunately that's an ongoing frustration for ISPs with regards to broadband. We have no control over the bandwidth we are forced to resell and therefore cannot fix much. Being caught between an angry client and an ADSL provider is not much fun! At least with our hosting, Diginet, etc, products we can pro actively do something to help people... :(

To me it seems like IS is capping IP's based on usage per session  Seems really strange.

I downloaded ~1.5gigs at decent speeds (25-35kB/s) twice now and then the servers just died no matter how long I kept trying. Unplugged router, reconnected, got a new IP and was back up to those speeds. Worked both times so I'm not sure...

If this is the case, then I feel for you okes on uncapped with fixed IP's :D

I tried unlplugging my router, increasing my connections, decreasing my connections, using both servers, standing on my head and whistling through my a$$ and I don't even gt 2kb/s!!!!

No matter how many times i reset my modem / disconnect-connect i still have the same IP. Had the same ip all month so far...

I still believe this is an IS issue and that they need to come clean about it. You cannot blame everything on Telkom. But as always IS is dead quiet. They are becoming more like Telkom everyday.

Hooray! For the first time in about ten days, I'm running at full speed. As someone else reported earlier though, I can get exactly four threads running at once (on each of the two servers).

yea i can only get a certain number of connections aswell but not getting full speed but way better than nothing :) myadsl having some probs though?
