IS News Server down?

seems if you make more than 4 connections you get "kicked" off the server. Ive currently got 4connections and cant even telnet into port 119, refuses connection...

Which server is that? if its news.isdsl.net, I'm also experiencing the same thing. I am getting good speeds though so I'm not gonna complain. If anything it's a very good move because the server won't get killed with too many connections.

Im really hating IS atm, think we moan about Telkom abit too much

lol, i actually just came on to say for all the moaning ive done, thanks IS, seems you got 1 of the servers running quite nicely. If it what it looks like, good move limiting the number of connections ;)

*EDIT: seems they both point to same server -> news.is.co.za and news.isdsl.net and allowing max 4connections... getting 90~180kb/s...

It is a *very* good idea; though if they are adopting this as a new policy it would be nice if they actually said something about it officially (so we can adjust settings on our newsreaders).

Just tried it and running more than 4 connections doesn't kick me off, so if it kicks you off then it's something else.

Agreed that if they do decide to implement limits on the number of connections it would be a good idea, as long as maximum speeds can still be achieved.

Running 4connections and cannot connect from any of the other pc's...

Local only account...

Could be the IP thing I mentioned earlier. Disconnect your router for about 10-20 minutes, reconnect and see if you get a new IP then try with the new IP. Disconnecting and then reconnecting immediately often doesn't give a new IP so it's best to wait a few minutes before reconnecting. Happened to me again today and a new IP fixed it yet again.

just got home n fired up the news reader.. took a while to connect but speeds are alot better than the past week. Its not amazingly fast (not close to maxing out my 384) but alot better than 1kb/s spikes. Still getting lots of errors tho

well from 3 till 4,zero errors and 400mb down... only 4connections aswell. Wonder if they set a max limit on the number of overall connections...?

I am happy with my current speeds, although only 4 connections, but its the speeds that matters overall ... while still annoyed at the way IS is handling things they no longer at the top of my little black book. :)

Try disconnect for a while to get a new ip. Im also wondering if they have set a max limit to the number of connections to the server...

Running 10 connections and getting 35 KBps on a 384 line...:D

how the hell you get 10 connections, i would be maxing out my line if i could make more then 4... :(

"unable to authenticate. recheck your download quota username and password and try again!"DAMN

lol thats a new one. its Strange as some people can have many connections, whilst i can only make 4, even though i "dialup" with other accounts on each pc...

Its like they checking that its coming from my line... big brother sort of stuff ;)
