IS News Server down?

I dont mind not getting 4mbit speeds but at least 1mbit, im getting 45kb/s and maybe jumps to 60kb/s

Lucky you, guys like me can't even get 1kb/s on 1 connection

I get zero on my 384. Used to max out (38 - 41kb/s) with two connections until two months ago.

If we didn't have the stupid cap problem from Telkom, we could be downloading directly from international sources and very few people will need a news

I dont really agree with wat you say there... Even if It had to be uncapped intl and local, i would still use the news server ive got a few reasons. (These are if the server works properly)

1) I dont have to rely on other people seeding
2) I dont have to worry about a ratio (384kdown / 128kup) <-- can bairly upload with this..
3) I can download files that are up to 90days old
4) I should get full speed on the file all the time

I donno that just my personal oppionion

I also like the idea of the news server, it's just that we don't really have much of an option. We can ONLY download from the news server. If you look at int, you can pay a certain amount to use an int news server and get a lot of transfer and speed from that paid server. So if Telkom didn't cap us so badly we could make use of int paid news servers at a fraction of the cost. Setting up a server in the US costs a lot less than here, so they can afford to give you a server that can run at full speed.

3 servers?? i thought ther were only 2 (news.is.co.za and news.isdsl.net)?

Ok. Heres something wierd. On my 2/28 IS account I have downloaded over 40 gig local and its showing no signs of capping up....PLUS.....Limewire seems to be working at 100k/sec. But now....I cant connect to the IS newsservers at all anymore (20mb files become incomplete and disappear in seconds) on any server...BUT its letting me connect to my newshosting overseas nntp account to download at 50k from there. Anyone have any idea whats going on here?

Strange, I just rebooted my PC and now it's maxing out one time! It was dead before I had to reboot.

Oh yes and I can only have 8 connections (news.is.co.za)..still maxing out....

Got the same thing yesterday.. connection just died. Then i rebooted the router and everything was back to normal.

Int seems uncapped at the moment

Guys it's been happening to a few people, seems that after you download a certain amount on a certain IP it dies. When you get a new IP then it's back up to speed.

martmeister there's no need to reboot the PC, just unplug the router for a few minutes and reconnect.

Im getting 40 odd k/ sec on a line capacity of 430k/sec. Not happy about it.

What speeds are you guys getting, connections. and what server addy are you using?
