IS News Server down?

I tried a few days back disconnecting the router but that didn't work. Maybe you need to unplug it on Saturdays at 3:13 when it's a southly wind and the sun is behind the cloud...who knows...

it doesn't matter as long as I can get my last 3 episodes sometime this year...
 
The question of them all pointing to the same server is... why
 
13-14: 295mb
14-15: 270mb
15-16: 260mb
16-17: 270mb
17-18: 281mb
18-19: 280mb
19.18: 134mb

19-20: 500mb

Seems to be back and working smoothly...
4connections aswell

Hi,

Any ideas? I can connect to all the servers. I get speeds of 40-50 kb on a 512 line. My odometer shows 1gb downloaded but after a few hours all the files read 0/15mb dowloaded. ps using Newsbin v5.3.

Its cause the IS server sucks balls! thats why i never left anything downloading whilst i was sleeping for that reason, wouldve woken up with a nice 4gigs of nothing...

Its because the articles are not being found on the server but news bin just carries on "downloading ghost data"...

I use newsbin but tried newsleecher to check and pretty much everything is just part missing...

*Scary thought, they fix the IS news server and have made it not update alt.binaries.* :/

According to some1 who posted they are "upgrading" there server... lets hope they hurry up... least night i did 1gig of air!!!! weeee.. 1gig less of bw.. ;/
 
Yeah think we should all put our downloads on pause cos we just using our cap for f**kall
 
We should make a local blog/site/forum where we can upload nzb's we have found work, eg: if someone gets prison break on tues, then we knw those article parts will be on the server. Otherwise air, lots and lots of air ;)
 
I dont understand why we getting f'all when downloading. I just downloaded the headers for alt.binaries.boneless and alt.binaries.divx and its packd, 1000's of posts


*EDIT: heres an interesting find. So went and got a whole lot of nzb's, avg age less than 5days. And they all downloaded gunk air...
Then went and got nzb's age 5days or more, some arb 1950's classics to new divx and they all download fine, getting 140kb/s+ and no missing parts...

So at moment, try stick to posts that are a bit older... Just my 2cents / what ive found works for me

Wow, just been reading about easynews, amazing. Cool zip manager service, so you choose what you want and they zip it for you and you can then get it through http... ;) very nice! and they offer proxy aswell to get through certain ports...

It is a great service: for $9.95 you get 20GB, and about 40 days retention (not as good as IS [70 days] ... in the days when the IS news server still worked). They also have about the best global-search engine for usenet binaries I've ever seen. Their autopar facility (if possible missing/damaged files are automagically repaired) is another plus.

Only negative is that that those easynews downloads come out of our very limited int'l cap.

Where do you guys get your int bandwidth from to use easynews? Im wondering how to organise...
 
You would use international. I use newshosting.com $15/month unlimited downloads, 60+ days retention unlimited connections...well from siax anyways. Had no problems with them at all. check them out. they also use international bandwith obviously but a couple days ago i was able to connect to them using my capped IS local account and got 50k/sec :)

ps...any news on the status of the IS news servers? anybody getting any speeds?

pps. @ Ziglet - to dl news - webafrica 10 gig siax R490, havent seen a better package and service at a lower price man. Im very happy with them.

I use powerusenet.com uncapped for $19.99 per month for 8 connections (more speed) and on IS capped it still works at dialup speeds this weekend.
