4 Total connections each at around 60kb/s at the moment. Well i hear the server is supposed to be totally upgraded by end of month, cant wait as it seems we will be getting some good speeds again :)

Its weird, it goes fine, i disconnect, reconnect and its completely USELESS again? wtf? Its almost like they have limited the amount of active users so if you don't make the cut, u screwed. I understand limiting amount of active threads/user, but limiting the amount of active users? Thats just wrong!

reset your router - that helps me. It might be IS is setting a limit per session?

I don't see how they can supply everyone with their rated bandwidth even after the upgrade. I'm no expert, but let's say they have just 10 x 4 Meg ADSL users. Each one can theoretically download at 400 K/s so that's an upload speed of 4000 K/s ? Then there are still all the other users.

Can they really manage such huge upload / outgoing speeds ???

I take it, if news.is.co.za and news.isdsl.net are the same IP, it means they are messing around with the server on news.isdsl.net and just pointed the route to the old one?

Something strange happening here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ping news.is.co.za

Pinging newz.isnet.net [196.26.208.126] with 32 bytes of data:
...

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ping news.isdsl.net

Pinging news.isdsl.net [196.26.208.126] with 32 bytes of data:
...

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ping nntp.is.co.za

Pinging newz.isnet.net [196.35.123.198] with 32 bytes of data:
nntp.is and news.is both point to newz.isnet.net but with different IP's.

Must be load balancing the servers or something...

*Edit: o ya, so what time can i expect you to come round Brenden_E? ;)

All I can say is thank goodness for torrents :D

Last night a downloaded 2 seperate files at 100 - 150 K/s EACH.

News Servers were like 1-15 K/s :o

Hey guys

Complete newbie to News Servers etc, been reading the forums all day, why not just use torrents? International cap?

And is the 'content' on these news servers good or just average?

Never used any before, and only recently found out about them, are they easy to use?

To be honest I would stick with torrents until IS has sorted out their issues. And they do have issues. I cannot even use my 4 Mbps line at 1024 kbps speeds and I would be more than happy just to get 1024K speeds again. Instead a get less than 384K speeds. I only the use news servers now if its is something not urgent and I can wait a few days for it.

There is a guide on the forums somewhere about using News Groups.

anyone notice any positive change in the server today??? I haven't!

1.4GB in the past 12 hours, it's not full speed but at least its working.

The odd thing is Newsbin stopped working last night and I had to switch to Grabit, and when Grabit doesn't work then Newsbin does. wtf??
