We should just have a paid server in SA. R30 a month or something and they can use the money to upgrade the server if the need arises.

i currently pay $29.99 for giganews - comes with 200 day retention, 20 simultaneous connections and SSL encryption.
usually you get about full line speeds during the whole session.
i've once done 3.5MBps from them for 12HRs strait - no worries about cached or non cached items there
...
but those are nice dreams for a local news server - not going to happen unless telkom and other entities involve make it possible for the local carriers.

Giganews is great if you got uncapped international, but the the other 90% of us, we gotta make due with what's about locally
(btw, I used ngroups.net for over a year in SA, and they were great. 70days retention (but do u really need more) and the unlimited account is only $14.99, 12 connections. And yes, full speed constantly)

they were quite cool too - i used to used them mostly but as you say the retention...
...yes the local issue - that and reading that japan sells their broadband off for $22, makes me want to take up the fork and shovel, march off to telkom/gov.
on that side i would love an alt to saix's game servers. they don't suffer speed, but sometimes an ego issue or two amongst the mods.
Denouncer, seems they've updated retention to 100 days, which isn't that bad if you think about it
Ah, I think that's their marketing department whipping something up. If you read on, its 100 days retention for text, but still 70 days for binary
I've been using easynews for almost two years now and they're awesome but thats because like giganews they're professionals. I've got a suspicion that IS is losing out big time by not having a paid server and is also generating a hefty amount or animosity.

I wouldn't say that it's as good as Easynews, but it's certainly streets ahead of IS
