Is Nvidia shield pro still the best?

It’s the best - just like some other electronics - if you look away when it comes to anything it can’t do .

I’m exceptionally cautious when some people recommend something nowadays
I'm probably getting the netogy for my study to just watch while I work on one of my screens

Get an LG C1. dont bother with anything else or you will be highly disappointed.
Sony A80J is pretty much on par with the C1. Price is about the same for 65inch.

A80J runs Google tv which has pass through for sound. Happy days. Nope. Fell into the same trap. Advertised that it would support Atmos and TrueHD etx. Well it can, but only via HDMI.

@OP maybe look into CoreELEC if you're streaming from a local machine on your network.

Yap the A80J is on par if not better. But they only come in 65” so that could work for rvZA, but those looking for smaller sizes it is C1 or nothing. I also don’t get why people keep harping about what OS the tv runs, it will be crap no matter what tv you have. Always Get an external media player.

I was looking for a bit of confirmation bias on the interwebs and I found some:

I'm just not sure myself how much of a priority the shield is for Nvidia. These days the majority of folks are perfectly happy with their built in apps on smart TVs.
It plays everything, like do you just want them to release a new version every year so you have something to buy?
They still regularly release new operating system versions.
This whole theory is just someone's butt hurt perspective IMO.

Nvidia can’t do YouTube HDR though.

Btw - Does Disney+ output Atmos at all on the Nvidia?
Not as far as I have seen.
Dolby Vision works with Plex and it was added fairly recently, so the fact that YouTube & Disney+ does not support it is due to the app developers.
The fact that you can download Dolby Vision and Atmos torrents from the internet and play them perfectly on the shield using Plex but it those aforementioned apps don't support it just speaks volumes to how lazy the devs of those aps are.

It don't think it has anything with nVidia

Are you replying to me or the OP? I feel my reply was misinterpreted if you're replying to me.

Ffs this is not a tv thread

This is a best media player thread.

LG C1 is NOT the best media player as it turns out. This is not an opinion lmao
My friend, the year is 2022 and this is how MyADSL has turned out. It's not like the good ol days.

Remember don't buy the Shield Tube. Only go for the 2019 pro.

I had the shield tube and it struggled with certain very high quality movies when using High Def Audio too.

I know right. smh
I think he is a dstv subscriber.
There looks to be some kind of skyworth local web-site that sells this crap.
Typical low cost Chinese rebadged junk.
Probably the typical thing those suppliers do: buys panels that doesn't make spec in various forms then resells them and similar practices

To be fair any tv that isn't an LG C1 will be crap, same way any media player that isn't an apple tv will also be crap. But some people like junk products so lets let them do as they please with their Randelas.

I noticed this morning that YouTube now switches to HDR on the Apple TV 4k :) . I feel so happy that i don't have to switch back and forth to watch HDR content. If only Disney + can fix their app now, that would be great.
