Is Rooting still worth it?

Back on android & inspired to nerd into tech after about 8 years.

How much has the rooting/jailbreak community advanced.. is it enough to be worth it considering the vast advancements in the more legitimate side of things android.

will I go back to Rooting? possibly, if Samsung does a backtrack and says older phones aren't supported with latest O/S,
or if my S21 goes out of software support and I still have it, might give it another go, when its not a daily driver anymore and got some horsepower to handle mods and kernels and all the fun stuff you can load.

One UI7 is the last official android update for that model but it is a pretty solid phone in most aspects - it is still fairly stronger than the Poco F1 that i was using up to a couple of months ago - and that F1 i would have continued using if the battery hadn't given up the ghost because it is still way stronger than like the A05's and A15's floating around as the most popular phones that Samsung sell - so IMHO plenty of life left in the S21FE until you want a shiny new toy to play around with

hence why I stick with Samsung even if its a FE model, and not a A Model, or the full fat S model,
brought mine used, screen is cracked, but still usable,

can I be tempted to switch over? Tried at one stage the LG-G4, suffered a lot with its overheating, tried oneplus, managed to brick it, to the point it wouldn't even charge, others I tried were innjoo, that was nice but so poorly engineered that the battery inflating pressed up against the screen making it difficult to use, and then they went away as quickly as they came.

only one I admired was wileyfox, had a decent vision, but then got greedy and made sealed battery phones like everybody else,

if I had to buy another phone to use, would be fairphone, as thats still old school removable battery, and heavily rootable and customizable and even repairable yourself.
(wish I could find one in SA)

also saw a Nokia/HMD that had it as well,

as for my S21FE running out of support? well they got to try convince people to buy new phones somehow, so I might be going back into rooting sooner than I thought, will see what FNB gives out as a boost reward this June 2025, supposedly a new phone is an option

last year got a semi decent pair of sneakers, probably the most expensive footwear I ever brought,

Have a Samsung Galaxy S3 on lineage from way back in the day. Still works great, battery is messed up though.

About. 4 months ago I did an old galaxy tab 2 9.7. Its software updates ended at Android 7. Did lineage and it runs Android 12 as smooth as my Galaxy S23fe with stock software. Everything works but best of all, no Google services.

for now you will get One UI7 (most of it anyway) ie at least all of the cosmetic stuff and some of the newer options that the S series get - you may just miss out on things like Galaxy AI, Samsung Dex and things like the Now Brief and Now Bar and Audio Eraser but how many of these are needed to make a phone work like a phone ..... the best way to know is to see some of the new A56 reviews because that was launched with One UI7 so you will arguably have all the functionality that the A56 and A36 can give you

things will eventually get murky for the S21FE because it won't get One UI8 since One UI7 is the fourth of its 4 promised updates and One UI8 is probably launching in June or July with the new foldable models first then global release for entire range when One UI7.1.1 would have arrived ...... and while sceptics may laugh at that idea - remember there are test versions of One UI8 already floating around based on the new Android 16 that Google is playing around with AND Samsung is determined that the new Z Fold7 and Flip7 are going to launch with One UI8 and everyone else will get it early because of the Fookups with One UI7 ...... time will tell but yeah i'm seeing many articles about rumors of new One UI8 features already being tried out - so it might be late this year or early next year (but they are trying to do it within 2025 and they are confident that it can be done)

why? Just to endure schit like this - FYI the garbage on the left is what the Iphone did and the image on the right is what the Samsung did - Samsung using Galaxy AI and Apple using Apples (so-called) Intelligence ...... only utter ar5eholes are going to listen to your nonsense

Or super customizable like apparently more than Android

Your iPhone Home Screen setup
Just look at how popular this thread is and how different those home screens are.

The one is on device and the other is not. Don't fall for clickbait next time.

looks like I might be going back to the loving embrace of rooting sooner that I hoped for.
S21 FE got stolen the other day, somebody smashed my car window to take it, :crying:

life carries on I guess, rocking a borrowed Note 10 for now , till I can get something else S series
even used is good enough for me, the S21 I had, its screen was partially cracked, not so much that you couldn't use it,

did turn on my Cerberus emergency mode, but for some strange reason location services were disabled,
although did get a partial audio file from the device it sent me,

but honestly, phone had a cracked screen anyway, was beginning to stutter when you type
and was slowing down a bit before its last major update,

thinking I can go Up or Down from where I was, Either a S20 FE or a S22 Ultra or plus used obviously,
even if the screen is damaged, as long as its not too bad.

of course I can go S10 and embrace rooting for what it is, a nice way to get the latest features on an old phone,
see there is a OneUI port for a S10 that updates it to the latest and greatest, S25 spec.

so I dont know, we will see.
thinking I can wait a bit and see what FNB rewards I qualify for for 12 months has for me,
its in June, so not that long to go.

bad news that - the car window is probably worth more than that phone with the cracked screen - i hope that the insurance sorts out the car at least

yip, Window fixed a few hours ago, NO excess, as its a Getz, plenty of them around.
sad about the phone tho, really enjoyed using a phone with updates still available for it.

going to see what I can do next, as would love a S22, or alternatively a S10 that I can root to take the latest One UI

S22 is still a pretty okay phone - and also features lots of stuff the S21FE would not have ie a few galaxy AI features and also Samsung Dex ...... i tried Dex on my cousins S21FE and it seriously needed a dock with external power to make it work PROPERLY - the phones battery alone could not make it work even on a wall powered monitor ..... not sure about the S10 and whether it would make the AI features work beyond what the A series does currently
