I had a burial for my HTC this weekend, now I need a phone be it new or 2nd hand. I have no contract and not thinking of taking out 1 anytime soon. My data & call needs are all taken care of by Cell C, 8ta & Afrihost.

My Options are the IPhone 4s- 16GB for R2.6k( 2nd hand) or get a brand new Huawei P6 @ 4.2k or Nexus 4 from the orange online-store @ R3.2k cannot afford anything more.

Is it still worth getting the iPhone 4s???

Get the Nexus. You won't be disappointed.

I owned a Nexus 4 a while back: Best piece of advice I can give you if you buy a Nexus 4 is to get rid of the stock ROM and install Cyanogenmod. It's like having a new phone. Massive difference in overall performance. Check Carbonite for some good deals on phones. Maybe you can find something really good that will fit within your budget.

+1 for Cyanogenmod. Just put it on my dual core tablet. You're quite right, it is like having a new phone.

But the iPhone 4s is still cool. You could probably get a good deal on one.

Why would Cyanogenmod be faster than stock Android from Google? I wonder how they do it?

I have the iphone 4s and planning on using it when my contract expires in December. It is still good enough for my needs. I have noticed though that my phone seems slower with IOS7 so I am hoping that Apple is still sorting out the bugs.

Due an upgrade in January - and my 4s is going to become a very glitzy iPod Touch... I haven't really noticed any significant drag on iOS7 - much more noticeable on my iPad2 - but a 5/5s/5c would obviously be that much more snappier...

No, the 4s is running slow on iOS7 (can't pry the fiancee's out of her hands), I' thinking Note 3 now, iPhone 5s is a joke once again no improvement from previous model (no marked improvement anyhow)

The 4S is definitely worth considering as long as it is not already running IOS 7. If it is then don't bother.

I'm enjoying my 4s a lot, more than I thought I would do for a relatively older phone. iOS7 is pretty much complete on there minus a few things and it's just a great overall device in terms of build, sound quality, camera, etc.

Really? I'm finding ios7 on here to be quite a pleasure to use. It's no slower than iOS6 and much more attractive. Maybe I've just got a low standard.

That's a good price for a very nice phone. You should really decide what you actually want from your phone. Weigh up the size of screen, OS preference, camera, use cases, etc. The Nexus will completely dwarf the 4s side by side, so that should be a big factor on what you want.

Fwiw - must say I agree. Have been enjoying iOS7 on my 4s. But then - each to their own. Pretty sure if I spent a few hours with a 5, I would notice lagging on the 4s - but since I haven't - all good! :)

Thanks for all the input!
went with the Iphone 4s - Delivery for the nexus was going to be over 2weeks as orange store didn't have stock and still had to order.

First thing I did was to update to IOS 7.02 and I would say so far so good.

and who knows in the next 6months what would be in the market.

So the s4 is a marked improvement over the s3..?

Its a marked improvement over the 4s, people using an iPhone 5 arent expected to upgrade to the 5s...

The amount of people complaining about iOS 7 on the 4s I would skip it

Man ios7 on 4s has been a pleasure for me. It's not as smooth as the 5 but it's plenty fast enough and if you turn off a few things like background app refresh the battery life actually seems better than 6. The only issue I've got right now is the Flickr app keeps crashing on me which is driving me nuts.

iOS7 on iPhone4 is a different matter. I put it on my father in law's phone and it kind of chugs.
