I've had bad experiences with these so-called "System Optimizers", so now I prefer to do it manually :D

Registry Mechanic is mostly safe, and in some circumstances I've found it quite useful, tho DIY is always best.

How do you do it yourself?

Hmmm... why not, I'll share one with you since you haven't been that annoying lately :D

Create a text file called "Start Menu speedup.txt'

open it and paste this code in it...

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"MenuShowDelay"="0"

and then change the file name to "Start Menu speedup.reg"

Run the file and then restart :)

There are better programs, definitely. I think one was mentioned in the Hardware and Software FAQ (check my signature) :)

atm, I'm reinstalling so much, I never actual get to the defrag part.

As for SysMech: The oldish versions were OK. The current one is a piece of $^%& and so damn irritating, its almost adware.
