Is Telkom breaking the law?

I live just behind Gateway, biggest shopping centre in the the Southern Hemisphere. Mom and Pops wanted me to install that waya waya crap so they could call for free.. Telkom said I couldn't get it as the lines were reserved for post paid customers... Then inquiring about getting a normal line, voice only they said it would take up to a year to install, not 30 days, 8 weeks, a YEAR! Is this some sick joke!?

Just be aware, Telkom have 30 days to install if they can confirm if there is ADSL in the area. Thats why the make you wait 2 weeks for order confirmation. If you get that confirmation within the 2 weeks then they have the 6 weeks or 8 weeks to install. Otherwise you are stuck without ADSL until they upgrade unfortunately.

I applied for my 2nd ADSL line to my home in November last year. All I've had so far after months of waiting is SMS's telling me "ADSL is not available in your area" and then "Your ADSL line is currently on a project; is estimated to be completed by 12/3/2008".

Which I find hard to believe since I already have 1 ADSL line ;)

Why are people still going on about telkoms trangression of toiletpaper adsl regulations:confused:its a waste of energy and intelligence. this is a third world country with 4rth world values and if you add all that up you actually have a big bowl of crapola, so there's my 2 cent's worth:eek:

IIRC there was also an article that all exchanges country-wide would be pre-provisioned for ADSL so that self-installation was possible. It was a few months before Telkom advertised said self-install option. I guess that this may go back 12 or more months.

Telkom took 13 months to install a home phone and ADSL line for me. Telstra were able to do the same in 1 1/2 weeks!
What is immediately noticeable however is that the callibre of staffing at Telstra is entirely different to Telkom. Even though Telstra behave like any spoilt monopolist should, there is still a semlbance of a customer service ethic!

;) Well I hope you get it but once you get the confirmation "generally" speaking, you get your line but I reserve my comment before I get accused of supporting Telkom.

You're lucky, and you're not alone - occasionally threads reporting similar 'quick' ADSL install times do popup in New Posts, however the vast majority of people seem to be forced to wait endlessly for Telkodemonpolies to install.

i'm also fed up. applied september 2007 and still waiting. I have complained at ICASA but had no response until I phoned them. I was told to send my complain to the manager via email. Got a response today (below)

Please post that email address here - I also want to forward my unanswered complaints to that person.

It WAS the biggest. Greenstone in Edenvale, Gauteng is now the biggest :) And trust me, it's MASSIVE.
