Is Telkom breaking the law?

I gave up emailing !CASA's CCC complaints about Telkodemonopolies' non-compliance with the no port prioritisation regulation - !CASA's CCC has not responded at all - not even a deleted without being read.

IMO !CASA's CCC is just a pointeless waste of consumers' time and tax payers' money - it should be disbanded to end this insulting sham.

Whats the deal with ADSL delivery? I ordered ADSL services for my new house on the 1st of Nov 2007 and I'm still waiting for them to "roll out a project" to provide me with an ADSL service. The estimated install date is now the end of June 2008. Can they do this or is this part of the 30 day term?

You are better off than the businesses in Capricorn Business Park, Cape Town. From what I heard Telkom simply refuses to provide ADSL access altogether. They will do so only when the whole Park is fully occupied. How long that will take is anyone's guess, because my estimate is that about 2/3 of the land does not even have buildings.

The irony is that Capricorn Park was conceived as a technology park!

I'm beginning to detect a pattern here:

Telkom did not respond to requests for feedback regarding this issue.

The last three articles I've read that featured Telkom in some way had the same little caveat. Telkom no longer appears to be interested in talking to the press. Or perhaps they've not yet filled Lulu's shoes. Or maybe they realise we no longer believe their lies and have stopped trying to sell us horse-turds for figs.

Well, they charge their customers twice for the same thing, their prices are 1000% more expensive than other countries, they lie about everything, take forever to deal with support calls, enforce stringent bandwidth capping and port-shaping, disallow gaming in their AUP only to advertise their ADSL with the slogan "Do gaming".

So yeah, are they breaking the law?

Telkom, along with most of government, needs to be disbanded and its individual members lined up and shot.

now there is a good idea :D

telkom would most likely say they don't shape their traffic other isp's does! would be good if they didn't shape

I transfered my adsl, informed telkom 10 Dec 2007 only got it installed 12 Feb 2008.

Nah shooting is too quick I was thinking of Burning them or droping them off in a pit full of snakes! :D

Maybe we need a thread with just the facts. Date of ordering adsl and date of delivery. i have friends in Hout bay who are being told that they may get adsl in June...
What do legal eagles here think about the port prioritisation argument? Are telkom imposing it on consumers if they offer a service that costs more and does not have port prioritization?

going into my third month here, not so much as a phone call or even a response to my order from TELKOM.
I asked for wimax, they said I am not in an area supporting that either, then they sent me an sms offering me wimax?

useless bunch of morons

Maybe try and slip it in with your complaint that Telkom also gave you a free non-approved cellphone. That should make them take action

6 to 8 weeks? Well, I wish I could wait 8 weeks for my ADSL, I have been waiting for 20 months for my installation...and counting.

Icasa

I had 4 outstanding ADSL lines which were due for an office move.

I wrote a letter to ICASA because Telkom cancelled the orders 8 weeks after I ordered the lines which is against ADSL regulation. I went personally to the ICASA offices in Sandton and delivered the letter.

I was sat down at a desk, spoke to the ICASA member and his manager an had the lines installed a week later without much of a fuss. The was full correspondence from ICASA so I must say I can only thank ICASA for their support.

I live just behind Gateway, biggest shopping centre in the the Southern Hemisphere. Mom and Pops wanted me to install that waya waya crap so they could call for free.. Telkom said I couldn't get it as the lines were reserved for post paid customers... Then inquiring about getting a normal line, voice only they said it would take up to a year to install, not 30 days, 8 weeks, a YEAR! Is this some sick joke!?
