Hi guys,

I received the following message from someone I have been corresponding with about Telkom-abuse:

“Your e-mail address appears to now be blacklisted. My mail server (my site is hosted overseas) has suddenly got [email protected] listed as blocked. I am trying to get that sorted out on my website. I am sure Telkom is trying to silence you.

Anyway, since I can't send e-mail from my other account to you, here's my reply….”

I have a very limited understanding of the technology, so I don’t understand exactly what this means, or how this works. Does anyone have any advice for me? Is this possible? How is this possible? Does this mean people don’t receive the emails I send them?

Since we know Telkom monitors these forums, I would like to address the following message to Telkom: GAME ON, TELKOM, GAME ON.

Hi Debbie2

This can be either as bad as it seems or simply an honest mistake. There are members of this forum far better equiped to answer this, but I know from experience that blacklisting of email addresses in the spam ridden net we live in is a common practice and sometimes innocents get bunched together with the sinful. To be sure more info will be required. Like where you were sending to. The domain should suffice and those members who know more than I do have to step up and ask the more relevant questions.

There are ways of making sure whether somebody got the message or not. READ RECEIPTS and so forth....

Regards
Antowan

Debbie2.. firstly, you're a nutter.. i like it.. :) secondly, I also received a mail from a chap who is trying to get hold of you and has said the mail is blacklisted. Of course I can send you mails fine as my ISP has nothing to do with Telkom whatsoever.. he's also concerned for your safety, although I think Telkom wouldn't go as far as to do anything to anyone.. hopefully.. moneh can be a horrible thing tho.. :)

You are welcome to use [email protected] and we can make that forward to the Yahoo address.. I doubt the address is intentionally blacklisted, but on the other hand, why has it been?

You know those Colt bakkies with the lockup loadbed the techies have ???.
I am sure that is there to hide the dead bodies :).

Well the DAOC has Hellkom's mails on auto ignore, why not just blacklist debbie then? These things do happen.

Debbie2,

1. What is the domain of that e-mail address (the @XXXX.XX part)

2. Do you know the name of the spam block provider?

3. Have you sent an e-mail from that address to someone that could have perceived it as spam (international)? This could be the case and that person could have ask his spam block provider to add you to the list.

Hi adlo,

Guys please ignore the "dude".
1. It's a yahoo address
2. No idea!
3. The only emails I have sent from this address are replies to emails I have received at this address, except for the ICASA PSTS Price Cap formula submission.

I don't know. I don't understand the technical issues involved. Please can someone try explain to me HOW this happens!

Thanks,
Debbie2

I don't know what is going on here. I have received emails today, yet there are some who are saying that my email is blacklisted.

How is it possible that some emails are getting through, whilst others are not? What does this mean?

Could it be that I seek the truth and expose your incoherent ramblings ???.

Still waiting for those clauses of the various laws and statutues that Telkom is supposedly breaking.

Are you really so insecure about your "cause" that you only want to hear like minded views and don't want to read those that differ ???.

Wait, I am confused.

So you are saying that you sent a message from [email protected] to [email protected] and a another message was sent to [email protected] that the original message cannot be viewed because [email protected] is blacklisted?

Adlo......what??????? :)

I am very confused.

I am saying that i have received emails to this address from many people. I have sent emails back to almost all of those people.

I am confused.

lol..

Debbie2 - it could be that a few people have experienced the phenenomenon.. look, a number of Telkom people do browse MyADSL (the rest of the Telkom employees are too busy working like slaves and wondering wether they will have a job tomorrow) and they know that if Telkom were to try a stunt like that they would be busted.. we have a large amount of very technically minded people here who can and will help out with things like this.. I've sent you a mail today and it's not come back.. was sent using a UUNET connection from a host in the States.. (was quite excited about getting a 2mbps Transtel connection but theres no train station nearby - LOL! ;))

I think it could most likely be an isolated incident but nevertheless we could put up a contact form on Hellkom so ppl dont have to send from Outlook (yeeees guys and the open source clients:)) or web-based mail providers..

paranoid???

ive simply got to laugh.... ive been yelling for years that Telkom control way more than just landlines ....and "My word ... you lot are a bunch of loony paranoid nutters ... this crap only happens in movies." is about the reaction ive always received....

Interesting to see whether Debbie2 has more and more problems in the future?
Ive actually been so stitched up out here due mainly to my IT ignorance and inability to protect myself it too is now laffable... :D

Now at last Telkom has a REAL problem.... an adversary with a BRAIN ...
hang in there Debbie2 and no matter what they throw at you just roll with the punches and keep going....

A word of advice, Dont believe every single thing u have been told ... smoke an mirrors abound out here....

WretchedToad :D

Hi Debbie
If you really want to know how blacklisting works, PM me. I just checked all the registers, and your address is not listed.
So there is nothing sinister happening here...
Cheers -
