Adlo......what??????? :)

I am very confused.

I am saying that i have received emails to this address from many people. I have sent emails back to almost all of those people.

I am confused.

Debbie2, as I indicated in my email to you, email has become very "touch and go" thanks to the spammers.

Mail server admins apply very aggressive approaches to blocking spam and some go too far, blocking entire domains for instance.

Yahoo addresses come under a lot of fire and I'm sure Gmail address will follow suit soon - the reason is because they are so often "spoofed" - it's also easy for your inexperienced spammers to get yahoo or gmail address to use.

Most mail servers these days will block any email without a FQDN (fully qualified domain name) - this is to stop people bulk mailing from mail daemons such as *nix sendmail.

Of course, sophisticated spammers these days make use of far more advanced practices. Namely, they make use of overseas internet companies which are more than willing to sell thier bandwidth.

All of this means email becomes prone to failure or being blocked.

No need to wait for anyone... go search for the stuff yourself and let us know what you find. Or are you incapable of doing this?

Debbie does her own research, why can't you? We've seen nothing but you berating her every effort since she started here without providing any solid information of your own.

Also, it's not called for to insult and be rude towards people just because they don't share your views, you _CAN_ discuss issues here in a civilised manner.

You seem quite knowledgable and I think you could be alot more constructive, for or against whichever cause. :D

There is a nice legal concept called "the burden of proof rests with the accuser".

I don't want laws recitied and posted ad-naseum as if I am supposed to merely sniff out or get a revelation of sorts to the illegality of Telkom's actions.

Show me which laws they have broken ... all I have read so far on this forum i.r.o this matter is people's gut feel (98% sure according to Debbie2) and opinion which frankly carries no merit in a court of law.

Hey please show me this and I will support you folks.

Tibby, you fail to see the point of the existence of this forum. Naturally we are interested to see Telkom play by the rule of law. There is no question about that. Consumer activism isn’t just about making sure companies play by the rules; it is also about the creation of new rules and attitudes. Companies in normal market circumstances are accountable to the public, hence such things as good corporate governance rules, social responsibility drives and more. Telkom hasn’t been forced by its customers to be accountable to them till now. Whether the law requires them to deliver or not is irrelevant. The customers have to make their voices heard. Companies don’t change because the law forces them to. At least not for the most part. They change because their customers and other role players want them to. Telkom could afford not to change because there was no alternative to turn to if you did not like its attitude toward you. We will hopefully be getting more and more competition for Telkom, but in the meantime we have to stand together.

Do you really think a site like this could become as big as it did if people didn’t have a need for it? We are here as a collective of broadband users who strive to help each other and work to change Telkom into meeting our needs. That is what Telkom was created for and that is what it needs to be forced to do. Thus you should not think of the law as your guiding light in supporting this cause or not. The law is the law and should always be followed.

What should be the key to convincing you to support this cause is the drive toward more affordable, better communication in our country. I am sure you will not deny the endless good this will do South Africa. The laws are not always the only issue. Sometimes you have to stand up for something that the law doesn’t yet fully protect. Our right to better service!

dudes - to have true freedom of speech you have to acknowledge other people exercising their right to freedom of speech, even if it goes against the very grain of your own existence. labelling people as trolls/idiots/stupid because they represent a differing opinion only serves to dilute your own opinion. its called opposition, without it we dont have true democracy.
just a thought. use it, dont use it :-)

Antowan, you bring a tear to my ear :) - your post deserves immortality :).

in thee forums and in particular against anything Debbie has said, Tibby has been like a little Yap dog trying to derail the thread and draw attention away from what is being posted.

Go Debbie go. :o

I dunno about that. He has been offering a different opinion. Nothing wrong with that. And its nothing compared to the barrage of insults she will be subjected to from Telkom...

Does look a bit like a plea for help with a hotmail account, that's not working,email can be a confusing concept, and maybe coincidental, that the account was used for anti Telkom mail, Debbie2 if you would like a new email account I would be happy to set one up on one of my domains, just mail me (-;

I agree with you ScrnScrm.

Sometimes things get a little heated but I doubt you will find many people saying we should not have oposing views on this forum. In my experience, good debates are tests for one's convictions.

If you convictions can survive a good debate you are moving forward.

Regards
Antowan

for tibby.dude....

:D
*They control everything ... in fact they are watching you now * and you never let me forget it do you lmao !!!!!!

personally i feel that it would be boring without posters like tibby.dude... Debbie2 is, IMO, more than a match for the likes of him :)
Well along with the odd troll out here, uve gotta have the crazies and i am happy if labelled amongst that band.
i say that Telkom has been settled comfortably on my landline for years and on mentioning several instances of weird happenings to Frank Dutton ex Scorpions he agreed with me and said to be careful of what i said on the phone? hmm.. crazy? oook...
the only way one can prove this is by getting the people in Roggebaai to check your line and they would of course be Telkom too haha... to have it done privately would cost a bundle which is not an option in my case.
so.... add the illegal hacking into landlines by Telkom into the picture of corruption while you are about it heheh.... believe it or not it makes no difference to me thats for sure... i LOVE this forum

Hi guys,

I received the following message from someone I have been corresponding with about Telkom-abuse:

“Your e-mail address appears to now be blacklisted. My mail server (my site is hosted overseas) has suddenly got [email protected] listed as blocked. I am trying to get that sorted out on my website. I am sure Telkom is trying to silence you.

Anyway, since I can't send e-mail from my other account to you, here's my reply….”

I have a very limited understanding of the technology, so I don’t understand exactly what this means, or how this works. Does anyone have any advice for me? Is this possible? How is this possible? Does this mean people don’t receive the emails I send them?

Since we know Telkom monitors these forums, I would like to address the following message to Telkom: GAME ON, TELKOM, GAME ON.

To those who are attacking me - Please take a look at my post (above). Please note that I emphasised the fact that I do not understand the technology behind this. I was simply quoting an email I received, from a former Telkom employee I might add.

I started this thread to elicit opinions and try and understand if it is indeed the case that Telkom has blacklisted me. If you take a close look at what I said in my original post, you will notice that I ask a lot of questions. It seems that Telkom has not blacklisted me, as I am still receiving email to that yahoo address (although the volume of email has decreased substantially in the past 3 days).

Just so we are clear on this - I now have enough knowledge to say that I do not believe that Telkom has blacklisted me. The numerous posts here certainly helped me reach this conclusion.

ScrnScrm: Thank you for checking the registers. It is appreciated.
bb_Matt: Thanks for explaining this issue in more detail to me.
ic, quik, wretched toad, and PeeVee: Thanks for the support.
josselg: Thank you for the offer. I seem to be fine for now....but I will contact you if I experience renewed problems with my email :)

ScrnScrm makes a good point about Tibby.Dude's posts. Yes, he is entitled to say what he wants, and yes, his objections to me are useful in helping me prepare to take on Telkom. However, I find it a little difficult to take tibby.dude seriously. I mean, the guy posts things like, "don't you have a life" to me, and then spends the next four days continually posting replies to everyone on this forum.

Freedom of speech is not an absolute. Whilst I agree with ScrnSrcm and Antowan that attempts to curtail free speech will ultimately be defeating the purpose of this forum, I also think that there should be a limit to what is accepted here. Posting things like, "what does a political science major know about telecoms" or "don't you have a life?" or comparing me to, heaven forbid, George Bush, constitute, in my opinion, a personal attack. They do not add anything to the debate. If Tibby.dude wishes to debate my character, then please, he should find another place to do so. Just leave me out of it, as I do not feel I should have to justify my character to a person who is too scared to stand by his beliefs, in public, under his real name.

well said debbie.
i would like to add to what you have said - to initiate change, you need the collective buy in of public opinion. i bet telkom is watching this forum and laughing at us - we are self destructing ourselves before we have even made a case. me thinks we must all pull together and do our bit - our objective is mutual - we would ALL like to see Telkom change into an organisation that is locally competitive and offering services to the south african community that are mutually beneficial.

lets keep our eyes on the ball.. focus on the task at hand and leave personal feelings and emotions out of it!

Okay, I think this thread is done. Closing it down. Thanks guys.
