IS testing SEACOM

I wonder if SAIX will follow suite... guess they will be forced to once IS has a SEACOM wholesale product that ISP's are selling like there's no tomorrow!

So my current fettish for Openweb + IS Accounts + IS Game Servers is pretty much well alligned with the SEACOM stars? :)

At least soon we'll have better lines into Africa, this will make my life easier as we have a lot of clients in Africa. as for the home users, i wonder when we will get to see some advantage in this

I don't think Line prices will come down this infrastructure is still owned by telkom and they are not bringing there prices down any time soon the other options from Neotel and so on are wireless which in my opinion are not very good

The thing Seacom will make a big difference on is caps we could be moving to an affordable uncapped service or a really high cap like 30 gigs or something

Latency will generally be unaffected

The only issue is that we are going to be waiting for about a year before any of this starts filtering down to the market

As far as big players on Seacom we have a few
MTN Business which now ownes the Verizon network
Vodacom ISP they are trying to break into the market in a big way
Neotel They can start supplying there own international bandwidth and not be squeezed by Telkom
IS

I think openweb's 384k uncapped for R599 is a bargain!

You could do 96,76 GB in a month if you are diligent! 8-)

That works out to about 0,62 cents per meg!

well that is plenty and split that 3 ways is R200 per person per month which is not bad if you think about it. cos at home we split it 3 ways. as longs as we can use this on a 4mb line and who ever wants faster line can get there own cap. I am sure that can work

Heard a rumour here at work that Seacom has been damaged and is down. Anyone can confirm this?

where do you work? and how would your offices know?

Work in Durban for an IT firm, dont' really want to say who but our team leader/ head developer saying Seacom has been damaged. He couldn't tell me where he heard it or read it from all he said was that its down at the moment.
