IS testing SEACOM

Well as I am sure you saw on other parts of MyBB, the Bandwidth charges only account for 25% of the cost, so even if they push that down by like 90% it will still be minimal. I personally am lookin for larger caps so I can get rid of some of my Telkom Accounts ...
My kids aged 7 & 10 use 3GB on their own !!!

Well if the 25% cost story is true, then ignoring other factors, it would only cost them 25% more to offer us double the caps with sat3 pricing. ;)

Their argument also plays against them. :)

We don't want a price drop(except with the 4 meg line rentel), but we do want a vast increase in caps.

I think openweb's 384k uncapped for R599 is a bargain!

You could do 96,76 GB in a month if you are diligent! 8-)

That works out to about 0,62 cents per meg!

They have already said it will be throttled during the day. So you won't get 96 gigs out of it.

But don't see this as only as a bad thing. This might enable the price to be less than R599, if not immediately, then quite quickly.

well that is plenty and split that 3 ways is R200 per person per month which is not bad if you think about it. cos at home we split it 3 ways. as longs as we can use this on a 4mb line and who ever wants faster line can get there own cap. I am sure that can work

Ya, but a 4Mbps line in this case is as helpful as a monkey throwing poo at you. Because the account is limited to 384Kbps ... I wouldn't mind paying 599 for uncapped 4Mbps though sometime soon I hope :p

Agreed and Agreed, I currently have a 4Mb Line and Multiple Telkom 3GB Accounts, if the caps increase I can drop 1 or maybe even 2 of these, so I would guess the saving for me would be great ... and working it out, the % is probably more than 25 (dependant on wht you end up getting ....

I was speaking to the guy who is going to handle all my newsletters from a company in America. He personally lives in the woods, so pays just over $500 for an uncapped T1 1.5Mbps / 1.5Mbps line.

However, his friends in the city pay $99 for a fiber 30Mbps/15Mbps uncapped connection and $20 for 1Mbps/768Kbps.

Its just not fair :(

Bumpity bump - Any news IS Resellers , IS (no rep on this forum)

RPM, didn't you plug into that fat undersea cable directly at a SEACOM event? I am shuddering at the thought of what those speeds were like. Please share! ;)

Possibly they had to sign an NDA not disclosing traceroutes, bandwidth tests like Tenet conducted with iperf.

How would you as a techie test Seacom b/w ?
Some would test and download a big download.
Goto youtube.com
I hate this suspense I cannot believe no one has an inside scoop as to what IS is planning, as they would be one of the first if not first Tier 1 ISP to introduce ADSL over Seacom packages.

Let me check this thread in another month -sigh-

I wonder if SAIX will follow suite... guess they will be forced to once IS has a SEACOM wholesale product that ISP's are selling like there's no tomorrow!

Why would they? SAIX is owned by Telkom which has a stake in SAT3/SAFE. Why would they screw themselves over by buying badwidth from the competition?

Ok it's gone past the middle of the month now, any news on if we are on the cable yet? WoW latency seems to be fine these past few days, lets hope it is a sign of things to come!

Bump
Its a hoax, the Seacom cable has not "landed", ISP's are not testing it,
only other poorer nations like Tanzania & Kenya are using it,
not "South Africa" the technological dinosaur of Africa

Yes, Seacom just another big dissapointment, just like Neotel.

Telkom are so the monopolist. I don't think they will care cause REMEBER you still pay R416 for the 4mb line rental to telkom! And the ISP like IS still needs to pay huge amounts in IPconnect charges.

Telkom allways have a smile on their stupid faces. I wish some one can just punch them in the face to wipe that smile off!

You know what I think. Competitive bandwidth prices should be a human right.

See if you can find a copy of the whole blizzcon 09 stream. Its about 18 hours of coverage. Should give the line a good test.

PS : once you done downloading it, send me a pm so that i can get a copy of it :P
