Is the Digital TV switch-on imminent?

Is there a technical reason why these terrestrial transmitters would affect signals being broadcast via satellite, in completely different radio frequency bands?? Does not make sense. What is the technical explanation?
 
So we've got exactly 3 digital TV providers & somehow they managed to park those on frequencies close enough to each other to interfere? :confused: :confused: :confused:
 
This is only for people using the RF output on their decoders. One of the DTT frequencies will be channel 50, some DStv decoders might be using channel 50 to send RF to the TV, although the default has been 63 for a while now.

They are talking about their terrestrial Mnet signal that some people still get.

Yes, DVB-H, DVB-S etc. There have also been DVB-T trials in certain areas. But this is a switch on of a whole cluster of transmitters in and around Cape Town tomorrow. Any device that sends a signal to the TV on channel 50 can be affected, DStv decoders, MNet decoders, VCRs, UHF modulators etc.
 
It sounds like a cheap publicity stunt from DSTV to me.

Well I've been getting DVB-T signal in PTA for a while now without any noticeable interference, why all of a sudden make noise about CPT being switched on?

There are many UHF frequencies, from 21 to 69, I'm not sure what frequency they are using up there, but obviously it isn't clashing with your decoder's output.
There are about 10 transmitters being switched on in CT tomorrow, so the chances are that there will be many people who have to retune their decoders/TV.

Satellite TV is broadcast in the 3ghz and above frequency band.

How will they interfere.

Anybody please explain.
Nobody can because there is no explanation.

Multichoice is attempting to cover their poor DBVH coverage and are using Satellite as an excuse to the unsuspecting customers.
Uninformed people are oblivious.

I have explained it a few times already. The RF output on a DStv decoder is in the same range as terrestrial. I give up.

I know this is a bit OT, but I'll ask nevertheless - what type of aerial does one use to receive DVB-T signal? Is it the same as the analogue aerial?

A UHF aerial. Same as what you would use for analog channels. Looks like the DTT ones will be broadcast between CH 50 and 69. You would need a UHF aerial supporting this range but who knows what frequencies/CH they going to be using apart from 50
