So im due for an upgrade soon and im hooked on the iPhone 3G i've been to the Apple iStore like a hundred times just to play around with the iPhone and get a hang of using the portrait keyboard when smsing(I have to say it is'nt all that bad).I've also read several reviews with them revealing many issues with the iPhone yet I still want it.Im thinking of getting it on the iPhone weekender S at R399 pm but are all the drawbacks really worth it?Should I rather opt for a Blackberry Bold or Samsung Omnia instead?or hold out for the much anticipated Blackberry Storm?

To me the iPhone 3G is a good "All-Rounder" in terms of its business and multimedia capabilities. Most of the problems it has can be resolved through iStore apps such as copy and paste and the landscape keyboard for emails,MMS's are not a problem for me I dont send many.

Im asking any iPhone 3G users to please help my cause by offering their opinions on the iPhone aswell as any problems they have experienced with it:)

Thanx!

I've only had the iphone for a few weeks but I think its a great device. That said I'm using it as a iPod atm because my other phone is a Blackberry. For me the Blackberry is unbeatable - why? Because of the r59/r69 unlimited data plan.

I've heard as more tales of disappointment surrounding the Storm than I have exaltation. Blackberry should probably rethink the iClone market and stick to what they do best.

sorry dude, i think there are a couple phones that are better than the new iphone... ive got a 3g iphone lying in my bag.... dont use it since i got my sony ericsson x1.... apparently the n96 is great too ;)

remember the iphone has a couple features missing.... contact fowarding/mms/video recording/apps shutdown when in standy etc.... which after a month or two might start irritating you.... your call !!!

ok so its not that good after all,2 dissapointed customers.I mean its so bad that it actually drove you guys to buy another handset that says a lot.I dont think it would be a good idea to commit to the iPhone especially not on a 2 year contract.Guess i'll settle down with either the Xperia X1 or Blackberry Bold.

Thanks guys have a great NEW YEAR!!!

Did you read my post?

What the Blackberry has going for it is a)the unbeatable data plan and b)that it is a great messaging platform.

My Iphone 3g is sitting on my desk, there seems to be nothing IMO to beat the SonyEricsson x1 phone but I have not used the Blackberry's the keys are too small for my big fingers and Nokia sucks IMO, cannot stand the o/s

I did read your post, the fact remains the iPhone 3G is not your primary handset,my question was "is it really worth it?"and I can tell you 1 thing getting it on contract for 2 years or paying more or less double the price of a normal ipod touch(which you are using it as:confused:)is not worth it.

Depends on what you want to do with your iPhone.

Mine is my primary and only phone, and it does everything I want it to and more.

I agree - it's a great phone. I just wish Vodacom would offer unlimited, or even just realistic, data plans along the same lines as they do with the Blackberry.

Fortunately the iPhone comes with wifi so my home and work adsl bears the brunt of the considerable application downloading feeding frenzy I've been subjecting it too. :D

Yeah... precisely.. same with me.. I walk into my house and the think locks onto my wifi and i go mad.. :D

Ultimately my only complaint so far with the iPhone is that it has forced me to organise my music collection properly and do the whole album art thing...

So far i've sunk about 4 days into it and I'm about 20% of the way through...... :(

iTunes should suck most of that in for you though?

Nope.. unfortunately not....

Alot of my stuff wasn't organised via ID3 Tags... plus I have alot of obscure music that iTunes has no clue about... such as The Beatles.

Here's what I want to know - why doesn't Vodacom sweeten the pot and offer free App downloads?

I'm waiting for my contract to end then I will do a SP port to MTNSP (but retain the network) and take the Nokia E71 on MTN Anytime R350. Thats an apt upgrade from my current E61i.

If you only have an iPhone, then its probably great

Okay.. but what about this?
1. The iPhone costs more than a PS3
2. If you have a PC and a Laptop that you can access on short notice, most of the iPhone's functions are useless. A cheaper (more durable) phone will then do the job.
3. It's an Apple product...

Background Info on my point of view: I was raised to be practical. I'm not impressed by flashy stuff, but by something's functionality. :)

1. I dont know much about cellphone pricing but I would suspect there are many phones that cost more than a PS3.

2. Again thats pretty much any phone. However these days I find myself at home doing stuff online with the iPhone that previously I would only have considered doing on a computer

3. Now 1 & 2 make a little bit of sense.

I dont really believe you can fault the iPhone on functionality or practicality. Look beyond the flash and its still a great device.

I wouldnt say that the iPhone 3G's functions are useless, they do what they are meant to do.The iPhone has a lot of useful applications that other phones dont have and the big plus is that if you want an application you just go in to iTunes and get it as to other phones where you have to search for them and the applications have been approved by Apple before its available on iTunes.
Most of them are free to download.

Makes sense.. And I know that it depends on your lifestyle.
But somehow... it just doesn't seem worth it. It's lacking somehow, I just can't put my finger on it...

Anyway.. have a nice day.
