I exist only in my own mind ...
many posts are about slow download speeds, particularly from Afrihost users.

I'm not on Afrihost, but am using another tier2 ISP who resells basic IS product and my speed is slower than a legless dog swimming through honey.

As a matter of curiosity, the same thing happened yesterday at around the same time and eventually cleared at about 18:00 when I guess the shaping characteristics were changed.

How do other IS users find access?

I got the exact same thing since yesterday. Download speeds of 0.2mbps and upload of 0.4mbps on a 4mbps line..
Its so damn frustrating

I doubt whether IS is the problem. What happens is that an ISP purchase wholesale bandwidth from IS and in turn provides IS with their radius server details. The ISP then create / configure their own ADSL packages. IS only shape uncapped dsl bandwidth (they do offer unshaped uncapped bandwidth as well) which means that the ISP is responsible for line throtteling as IS do not throttle their lines.

Basically IS by releasing these uncapped accounts have crippled their network and everyone single IS based account is suffering.

Simple as that. I bought an unshaped account from axxess today and the speeds are slow and local pings high. So this uncapped has ruined IS for the moment i think.

i'm not so sure, from a contact at IS, i was told their network utilisation is "normal"

Well why would they tell you their network is screwed?

Why are all IS accounts slow? I have that unshaped from axxess, slow. Local only 10gb high local pings. Seems a bit odd if the network is fine why are all IS based accounts suffering but anyways those are just my feelings.

That's BS ...... 99% of all slow speeds/high ping issues the last few weeks are all from IS account holders (across many ISP's). Switch to any SAIX account and the issues are not there.

Holding thumbs, but..

And it's never been worse than that.

(Afrihost uncapped, 45GB usage )

I've experience this daily. IS isp to IS gaming servers, pings are high in the day, then you connect on SAIX ISP to IS gaming servers and there is no problem? Surely IS to IS should be the fastest. lol

Also having problems with IS (via Axxess) - very poor browsing performance, especially international (4mbps line).

No problems from my side, was browsing fine last night and this morning

IS are the most useless backbone this country has. Afrihost IS account is shot, IS uncapped at work is crap, local IS is crap. IS is crap.

I'm with IMAGINE IS.... Awful speeds, it's ok around 18:00 as you said, but even http browsing and simple web downloads are hopeless. Pages don't load, downloads stall.

I'm sad as I don't feel like changing ISP's, but if this doesn't get sorted soon I will probably go with Mweb.

As I've said yesterday, IS experienced a problem with their Internatinal Fibre Access backbone. This was resolved at 08:46 this morning. As for slow speeds through Access, Afrihost etc - these are all companies that uses their own radius server with large amounts wholesale data purchased from IS. They create their own "packages" based on the specific bandwith profile (for example: shaped uncapped, unshaped uncapped, capped etc). ISP's who creates their own "packages" based on wholesale bandwidth purchased are directly responsible for heavily shaped / throttled bandwidth. IS is not the issue here, the ISP is.

It could be IS throttling all its reseller-ISPs uncapped accounts.
I have capped and uncapped Afrihost logins. The uncapped account is dead slow while the capped one works fine. Then again it could be likes of Afrihost. The 'broadband' wars continues... :)

If this is true why would one have problems on Imagine who simply resell an IS package? The ISP is IS.
