Is there a problem in Cape Town

Well I sent it right to the top this time so let's see what happens

MTNDD

Wow, I was not the only one!

I just got the best rate ever...0.9 kb ps..in Central Cape Town...

I must say MTN, you are the BEST in South Africa..Maybe the world...
HSDPA - Well done..You;ve outdone yourselves this time..

I want to take my card back and I cancel the contract, because this is taking my $$$$$$ hard earned for that matter...for granted...

I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of such service...
I am porting all my MTN contracts that's coming up for renewal in Feb/March to vodacom or CellC (I am even willing to try Cell C - So desperate am I..)

MTN DD - Don't you get tired of hearing the same things over and over again?

I'm out - "Tired"

Thanks, MTN_DD. I received a call from Lynton Klassen at 13:24, it sounds like something is going to get done now.

Good day,

I can tell you for sure that there is some action being taken to sort out the problem in CT I can't share the internal emails but there's been more movement today that any other day I've seen thus far helps going directly to the Network Performance Manager

MTNDD

wow, an all time high I am currently getting:
Sending 1.0 kbps
Sending Top: 16.2 kbps
Rec: 0.5 kbps
Rec Top:115.6 kbps
I've been on for about 30 min now...
Can MTNDD please arrange that my card be taken from me as I am going to hurt someone from MTN is I see them now....
WHY ARE YOU NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS MTN?

Morning

Reference number: 1043708 is a SMC via USD Reference with Status: Work In Progress.

Three HSDPA Data Cards at the same speed

Hi MTN DD,

I now tested 3 HSDPA cards and get similar speeds:
Send Current: 0.7 kbps
Send Top: 9.6 kbps

Rec Current: 0.0 kbps
Rec top: 6.5 kbps

What am I to do?

Here is the feedback on Ginngs's issue

The below email was sent by the coverage guy

-------------------------------------------

Good afternoon All,

I went to see the sub's yesterday to establish the problems they were experiencing. This was in fact such a strange one - in the sense that Jurie was complaining about the speeds being too fast for them.

I visited them at Werner's place, which is on the corner of Hastings and Bond Streets. During this time it has been established that he is on the border of two 3G sites serving him. During the day time this cell shrinks to accommodate a higher concentration of traffic closer to the sites, thus throwing him off, thus the fluxuation between 2G and 3G. I made some changes on his connection settings, removing the conflicts between hardware flow control, modem error control and software compression, which caused him to have average speeds of up to 142kb/s on EDGE. He is also hidden from the street and is on the ground floor of a flat block facing away from the street, thus low 3G coverage, but around -76dBm indoors.

Jurie on the other hand were higher up Kloofnek Road at the corner of Cotswold Road. He looks directly over the city and get very good reception, but low throughput. They do admit that they get superb speeds before 8:00am and after 22:00pm, but slowing down of speeds between this period. When they disconnect and reconnect it is better, until it slows down again.

They are both sorted out in that they were not really looking for super speeds and EDGE is basically giving them what they wanted, after the change in settings.

I ran a test earlier today at Harrington Street doing both FTP and HTTP downloads to establish if there is any difference in the result when doing drive tests, as all of the drive tests done in the CBD thus far shows positive (MTN FTP server: 10.204.29.36). The log file is a bit large to email, but you can get it from this address: \\glp25221l . The guys in Harrington can find it on the K: drive. Please run through the log files and provide feedback?

@manne2004

I'm still waiting for that coverage template I've check my GMAIL and my work mail and I still haven't recieved it as yet if you could send it to me then I'll have someone look into this matter for you

Should you want to do it another way then you can either email them or call them and they can log that template for you and have the 3G engineers and coverage manager look into this and see what can be done as you can see above action does get taken and people do come out and see what can be done, could you also please advise what you're using to test your speeds e.g International test site or local? Or something like netmeter?

Herewith are the coverage department's details

MTN_DD, has the been any feedback regarding the slow 3G/HSDPA in Cape Town centre? Last you posted was "work in progress".

It seems sean12 is still having a problem.

I completely missed this post, MTN_DD, are you a moderator for this forum? Perhaps you can merge these threads, along with this one.

Good day,

sean12

If you still have a problem please let me know by popping me a PM with your cell number, physical address and location, please also advise if you know anyone else in the CT area that's experiencing the same problem and if so please supply me with there number's as well so that I can send this to network to investigate

Thanks MTNDD

Hi MTNDD

I am having problems with 3G in Gardens Cape Town. The problems started +-7 Jan 2007. Speeds are slow and sometimes I experience timeouts. This happens at all times as I sometimes have to check things at
04h00 etc. This morning +-6am I got intermittent spurts of up to 600kbps then back to 1.2-3kbps.
If I change to EDGE only, I get much greater speeds.70kbps-130kbps but averaging 30kbps.

I was at the airport yesterday and was getting 300-500kbps on HSDPA.

I am currently on EDGE only.

I have PMed you my details as well.

Sean

Still very slow in Cape Town Gardens below 10kbps.

I was at the airport earlier this morning and it was flying, excuse the pun.

I have now set the card to EDGE and guess what the speed is 6 times as fast.

There is something wrong with the HSDPA here.

We're still looking into this one for you

Is the problem in cape town still persisting and if so what exactly is the problem??

my card picks up the 3G network now and again but with no signal so i cant surf when that happens... could you check if i do indeed have coverage as the map is still outdated.

Thanks
