Hi i received the following sms yesterday:
YOU HAVE WON A NEW BMW 3 SERIES COUPE, COURTESY OF THE MTN/BMW 2010 PROMO & TO BE DELIVERED ON 21/08/09. CONTACT [email protected] +27838810417

is this a scam????
 
No, just like the 4 e-mails you get every second day from the former wife of an honest politician who just happened to have left $132million in an obscure bank account and your new friend wants to share it with you...
 
Yes. Usually they tell you that you have won the car, but there is a delivery fee of, say R5000. You pay it and guess what...
 
Yep thats what I have never understood about these scams, they normally try enchant you with an amazing prize or amount of money and you have to send them the collection or courier fee.

Every Email scam letter I have received has been promptly answered upfront by letting them know I am quiet willing to accept the prize but to please minus the courier/collect fee from the winnings or prize.. I don't get too many scam letters thesedays.

Yeah, I usually do this, had one scammer on the hook for quite a while before he lost interest.

My latest reply was using the name which was an anagram of Robert Mugabe, guess the guy worked it out because I haven't heard back from him!.

Eish guys thnx 4 all the replies:). What i don't understand is Y oh Y oh Y all these scams in these tough times:(. When the legitimate opportunity comes around i will definitely turn it away:eek:. Anyway i called that 083 number and this guy picked up saying he is in Bloemfontein at the BMW dealer. He wants me to send 4 other numbers of guys i phoned recently. He recon we are 3 guys who received this sms. I'm not sure i still feel sceptical about this whole thing

thnx 4the tip. luckely i made the call from another cell and it's on pay as you go so i only had about R10 worth of airtime on it. the number is also hidden... o shucks... the dude asked me to confirm my cell number the sms was send to, to see if it was my number and i gave it to him... oh f $%$#

f#$%^ is right, im not sure whats gonna happen from there but lemme check for you cjooste, that bastard must not get away with this:mad:
