Is this Inverter sound normal?

Hi guys. I've had a new inverter that I picked up on takealot installed over the past week( navasolar 5.2kw which looks like a must/ xpert generic) .
It was connected to a mercer m3000 lion battery by an electrician.
Every 2 or 3 hours or so I hear this cracking or clicking noises that is rapid and doesn't sound like relays.
Im not too clued up with how these things work but It doesn't sound very safe. There's no fault or error code during the sound.

It is linked to a mercer m3000 lion and no solar just to grid.
I have been hearing these rapid cracking / clicking sounds every 3 or 4 hours randomly with no fault codes . It also doesn't sound like the usual relay sounds. It doesn't happen under any load etc
Any advice is appreciated.


 
Definitely not normal, call the electrician back to check, either the fan is being impeded by something or there's a lose electrical contact, but In the latter case it woukd be accompanied by the burning smell.

Anyway, there is nothing normal about it. If you can switch it off until it can be looked at.
 
I had this on my 3kva axpert based, was normally when load changed quickly. Though never gave me any issues.

Though should not happening now as the inverter should be on bypass and not being used I presume as there no loadshedding right now.
 
I also bought that inverter. Just got my panels yesterday looking to get the install done in the next week or so. Hopefully it's not a problem with these inverters.
 
Thanks for the response. It has been on bypass via the grid and the sound has been happening. Fortunately I haven't gotten any smell etc. Either way im going to return the unit for a replacement. @cavedog let me know how yours hold up
 
I'd get that replaced if I was you, that doesn't sound right at all. I had a 5kw Mecer for years and never heard that

Yeah, the only sound that must be there is the fan and the momentary click when there is a changeover.

Crackling sounds on an electric or electronic equipment are never a good sign.

Even on bypass? WHat happens if you do battery and solar only cut the grid supply?

Surprisingly when I tested it to run my apartment from the battery only and inverter with loads like the toaster etc there were no cracking sounds, just the normal relay click when I switch over from grid to inverter.
Either way it doesn't sound good and logged a return will let you know the outcome.

Hmm so it's the bypass that is doing that. Weird but yeah I would say like mentioned before. Return it.

When I get mine installed I want the electrician to install a change over switch for me so I can switch back to grid and bypass the solar setup completely incase of a failure like this.

Sorry for the offtopic but how much did the installation set you back?

I'm also looking for an installer.
 
I have one of those inverters since Jan2025. I have not heard that sound. Been running good since installation. My system consists of the navasolar 5200 Pro, two navasolar 48v 100ah batteries and 6 canadian 550w panels. @cavedog my original install was for a 24v install, coc and 2 panels Was R7700. Got the same installer to upgrade about 1 year later to the 48v system add 4 more panels and upgrade the circuit breakers and coc and that was another R1500. My inverter db is completely separate from my eskom db.

Howsit bud. I was not comfortable with the sound at all so I logged a return and sent the unit back. Can you upload a video of the sound ? Maybe we just got faulty units. I didn't order a replacement from them
