Hi all, totally new here and wondered if anybody could help.

The internet I access is on a network, how would I know if the server is accessing the internet from IS or SAIX.

Thanks

You can check you WAN IP from www.whatismyip.com. I'd say the rule is that and IP's starting with 196 is from IS. The rest normally is SAIX. (Like 44 and 168)

Or the DNS server IP

SAIX = 196.25.1.1

IS = 168.210.2.2

(Don't know why the IP's of the DNS are reversed from the IP's assigned to the end user.)

go to command prompt, type in tracert google.com and hit enter

then copy and post the results here and we'll be able to tell you

Maybe ask rpm!!!

It could be using neither. Ping google.com and if you get +-400ms you're getting international via cable and if you get 600+ you're getting international via satellite.

Cable would mean u on SAIX and sat would mean IS in normal cases ;)

... could also depend on your line usage at the time you pinged google ;)

Go to a DOS prompt and enter "telnet news.is.co.za 119". It tells you nothing if it fails to connect. But if it DOES connect then you're definitely on IS.

Otherwise just ask your admins ...

This is a brilliant idea!

16 apk-fw-01.uj.ac.za [152.106.99.1] reports: Destination protocol unreachable.

The last bit of a tracert to your ip. Looks like you are on Uninet, which seems to route via Telkom.
