Hi all

I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question :o but I need to know what temp is too hot for a CPU ie the point at which damage occurs? I have a 3.2Ghz Intel chip with a Thermaltake Blue Orb CPU cooler and at full load it runs at between 45-50 degrees. Without it the temp jumps to over 60.

its a bit high what kinda cooling do you have in your box

no good having a nice cooler if there is no cool air

3 cooling fans and the motherboard is an Asus P5ND2 with a massive heatsink on the North Bridge that is designed to draw heat away from the CPU. Plus the Thermaltake CPU cooler 'cause stock cooler ran at 60+ degrees

Na... i won't worry about a Prescott over heating, I would how ever worry about the computer case that suddenly seems to have gone up in flames...

All Intel CPU's past the Pentium 3 have thermal protection so if it overheats it will turn off the PC or the system will stall to prevent damage. You can even remove the heatsink while the PC is still running and no damage will occur*

AMD is another case tho, I know the Athlon XP's (32bit variant) still had some issues where you could fry the cpu in a matter of seconds, don't know how it's changed since then...

*If actual damage does occur, I take no responsibility.

mine went to 72degrees underload...then i decided to clean out the dust deposits inbetween my heatsink :p
now its at 60-65 max :)
So u shouldnt worry...I have 4 fans in my case...two infront, one side and one at the back...
