Is this what un-capped feels like?

Internet is quite choppy tonight. Wonder if it's related. I've never seen so many disconnects. Lucky if I get one in 6 months usually.
 
Umm...seems a lot of things are going wonky. I stopped abusing my TI account now as I pretty much ran out of stuff to download and 30-odd gb is plenty to land me in hot water should they decided to bill me. I now tried using an Openweb - local only - account of which an unused part was donated to me and it refuses to pull anything from the newshosts. The odd thing is that it has international access, albeit incredibly slow international access.
Hopefully we'll find out more tomorrow.
 
I use Route Sentry and I only found about this yesterday. Before that I downloaded about 2Gigs of local stuff. So how can they bill the people who still think they still on local?

Yeah, there are guys who really can download petabytes a month if their connection and cap allows them to, but I never use more than about 20-30GB a month and I'm sure that applies for most people here? One of the main reasons (besides for profits of course) that Telkom may be scared to raise caps is because in the few times their capping system has failed before, people always seemed to abuse the system and download abnormally high amounts of data in short periods, so it would seem illogical to rid the capping idea. But don't you think that's more of a temporary 'synchronization' with the internet? If we all had uncapped every month, most of us wouldnt use massive amounts every month - most of our hard drives aren't even big enough anyway? We don't have this desire to 'quickly milk dry whatever we can while the system is down' because we can always download whatever we want anyway. Yeah maybe I'm missing some important concepts, but it's something to consider...
I always wanted an mp3 player to listen to music portably, it was such a cool idea! Now that I have the mp3 player, it just sits on the table collecting dust... I find I dont really need it as much as I thought I did. food for thought? lol :p

you think exactly like me bud.....got an ipod touch for like R4000 when it launched and i still have tons of space on it and it only gets listened to on holiday trips.too many ppl download useless c$ap and as the chap above says he finished at 75 gigs? what exactly did he download to get to the 75 :eek:. but i agree with the higher poster...we should all just stfu and enjoy this while it lasts.....am gonna buy a spare gig tonight seperately for backup so my mom doesnt shoot me and then just go freeking mal on my current 3 gig account.happy downloading ppl...dankie Telkom..keep it up :p

OK -- SEACOM & TELKOM are testing ( 2010 and big OPENING this week ) -- they do not have enough throughput to really stress the fiber. ;) so they cannot test it properly ;):)

IF you are hellbent on downloading ( and have rapidshare ) -- download something usefull

Just like expiring free minutes I'm inclined to think that the "the old grannies pwning their e-mail accounts" are exactly where the money is made. If you pay for bandwidth and you don't use it, then it suits the ISP as they can oversell a little. The caps are not there to limit the old granny, but rather to limit the power user (and prevent accidental overuse). Was it not for the power user, the cap would not be needed as the odd old granny who uses more will be unbalanced by another old granny who doesn't overuse.

That said, I can certainly think of 60gig to 100gig of stuff I would like to download, that I can download legaly and without feeling that I'm wasting. I'm fairly sure I won't be downloading that much every month but I can easily imagine using at least 20 gig without much effort.
 
Honestly, why does someone have to try and ruin a good thing...
 
There isn't much I want to download en masse that I can't get off the local news server, quite honestly. But it's been nice to be able to listen to good quality streaming audio without worrying about teh cap. :D

Telkom will be the only ones affected by this glitch.

How many times must people explain that Telkom can only bill you for local as it is their responsibility to cap you on blended. It's not like this is the first time people have slipped through their capping and haven't gotten charged.

This is probably the fourth time it's happened to me and each time I hammer it and nothing happens.

It definitely is not theft. If you were to go to Pick 'n Pay to buy a six pack of long-life milk and they told you it was R20.00, would you:

A - Thank your gods and walk out
B - Take it back because you are used to paying R60.00
