The question has been asked before, so here goes. How many users would be interested in a IS uncapped solution for 192k/384k. The package would consist of a preconfigured router that would block p2p effectively, all other usage would be allowed and working at full package speed.

The Following accounts will be available for Signup later today:

- Unlimited access
- Dynamic DNS
- Outgoing mail server facility provided
- Router Rental included
- IS news server access included - Other news servers also allowed.
- No P2P
- Month to Month : no contract

Startup Fee: R1100

Monthly 192K: = R750
Monthly 384K: = R1000

Which router does the Package use?

Billion 7402 ADSL Router

How does P2P blocking work, and what does it mean?

P2P will encompass file sharing protocols like torrents, kazaa, edonkey, dc++ etc. Skype and VOIP won't be blocked...

P2P restricting is done on the layer 7 (packet) level. This means that 'ports' aren't blocked.

So the system doesn't actual shape at all. The accounts are "unshaped" but with satellite for the international portion.

Telnet on port 23, not a problem.

Feel free to post your comments if interested. Please dont disect this thread with comments like, "Stupid idea" , "Who would waste their money on that" etc :)

Still higher then what I'd pay...but I'd say if I did not use p2p, this would be an option. But the startup fee does not make any sense to me which I suppose would be used to pay for the router and since most people would already have their own ADSL modems & router this really doesn't make any sense to include this charge.

Going through IS, would that mean I would be able to use it for Online Gaming, or is that where the satellite high latency issue comes in?

You can use it for gaming of course :)

But you would go via Satellite internationally, 600-800ms to US/UK, there is however no shaping, so the latency is very sustainable.

If p2p was still added could i use my own router, there by removing the startup fee?... i know that u have the router to filter p2p (am i wrong?).

Nope you cant use your own router, you have to use the supplied router.

P2P will not be added.

Zubs it is one login, only usable from the supplied router which will include your ISP details.

You can only use that specific router to access the access from one ADSL line. Then you can share it among the office network if u wish.

Would be more interested in an affordable 10GB/20GB/30GB account.. been on the net since 95/96 so its nothing new, so personally dont need uncapped :) would prolly pay R350/400 for 30GB tho.. at the most.

if you restricting p2p - does that mean that skype and VoIP will also be unusable?

Cause i'm still looking for a product that i can use cost effectively for VoIP solutions - i don't mind if p2p and game ports are shaped extensively, just not the VoIP ones (including in that MSN messenger and any other real time communication apps)

If anything went pear-shaped with my Uunet account I would certainly be interested in your Monthly 384K: = R900 offering - seems a good deal under current circumstances. Would need Telnet ( port 23 ) open, and a genuine "uncapped" service.

What I would like to know is the meaning of an uncapped soltuion ? what ports do they allow etc, as Bit torrent can is used for a lot of the linux world ? so where do they draw the line

the router has level 7 p2p packet filtering so only p2p get scanned and filtered so all other packets will work unshaped on all ports... (Maybe wrong with the level, tryin to remeber from the same questions i asked).
