Is Windows Mobile 7 too late?

IMHO:
At the mo its a symbian^1 vs Android 1 debate. Android 2 hasn't landed "officially" here and there are no symbian^3 devices out yet. Iphone has a wealthy and thus limited userbase due to its local pricing and WM6 and blackberry seem the historic boring corporates. Seems like WM are slowly but surely being edged out of the market due to the introduction of more platforms. By the time WM7 arrives, symbian^3 and Android 2+ will be prevalent and WM7 devices will have a tough time competing.

For me it wouldn't be too late. Since we in SA can upgrade a phone only once in 24 months, all this doesn't really matter since you can't change youre phone inbetween those 24 months if you don't have the cash to buy a new phone every phew months or so.

I can only upgrade in June and most probably I will take the HTC HD2 which is WP7 ready. WM6.5 is a lot better than WM6, so Microsoft has already started to improve on that front. So I won't go as far to say that it's too late! Better late than never!

Please google HTC HD2 and WM7. In fact, The HTC HD2 is one of the very first handsets which is proved to be 100% capable to run Windows 7 Phone when it comes out due to its hardware specifications. The HTC HD2 has a 1GHz CPU for crying out loud, of course it's Windows 7 Phone ready. What I can honestly vouch for, and YES I do have a HD2, is that the phone itself is not something to go for. Rather save your money and get a phone running either Android or wait for the Apple iPhone 4G. The HTC HD2 is nice, but it's not worth the money and it's one purchase that I really regret making, and no, the screen is STILL not as good as an iPhone's and anyone saying otherwise has simply never used an iPhone before.

Ye, smartphones are the future so to say its too late is silly. If it meets the market's needs when it's launched then consumers will pick it up and use it... simple as that.

If they launch an out of date OS then thats a different story - microsoft does have a tendency to start singing about how great their systems are... a year before it actually launches.

Lucky for them smartphone users rarely hang onto phones longer than a year or 2, so theres always a chance to get a product in there.

OK so I did a Google search, and most of it is speculation. There is no concrete announcement from HTC, except to say that HTC will only make WM7 announcments once MS had already done so...

So now I will wait and see which comes first
- announcement from MS and/or HTC about a afree WM7 upgrade for the HD2
- local release of HTC Desire
- local release of HTC Google Nexus one

I'll get which ever comes out first...

Yes, it is too late... because MS doesn't have the Geek appeal that Apple of Google have... and they probably won't know how to market this thing to it's best advantage. Besides too many people hated Windows Mobile version 6 and are not likely to get burned again.

I agree, the long upgrade periods will cause people to wait a bit for WM7 - you don't want to look like the idiot who missed out on WM7 by one or or 2 months. Rather wait till all options are available and then make an informed decision.

Looking at the web demo it seems decent but nothing to get excited about.
