Hi

I downloaded the OpenSuSE ISO and upon trying to install I got errors.:( To cut a long, frustrating story short, I eventually downloaded the torrent from ftp://mirror.ac.za/opensuse/opensuse/distribution/11.2/iso/ (where I got the ISO) and set the download path to the directory of my ISO. Anyway, my torrent client checked the file and reckons I only have 98% of it.:(

I can't complete the file using the torrent as I'm capped so is there any way of completing it with local only. I remember reading something about this but I can't find it anywhere:(

This was supposed to be my first (serious) distro and this is a bit of a roadblock.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

The "problem" with torrents is that it splits the file up into a bunch of pieces. So what allows you to get good speeds (by sharing the load) is also what screws you if something fails; without using the BitTorrent protocol, you can't be sure which pieces are missing. Unfortunately you'll have to either finish it next month, or download it off local (at under R10 per GB, it's worth it).

So I'll have to get the whole file again? I have tonnes of local but a 384 line:erm:. I took me a good few days to almost download it.

I downloaded and installed the ISO in an evening on a 384kb line. Shouldn't take THAT long.

If you wait 6 days you could also just continue the torrent.

I topped up with some Afrihost gigs. Finishing the torrent right now, will seed a bit then install.

Keep an eye out for all my other questions. I have a feeling this is only the beginning:p

Good to hear you've come right.

If the ISO turns out to be corrupted (unlikely), gimme a shout and I'll see if I can post a DVD off to you :)

Thanks Libs but the torrent worked. I think it was my download manager that skipped a couple of megs or something.

I'm installing now in a VM. I just want to get familiar and back up some files before I reformat my hard drive.

Next time you need an ISO ask here first as there are usually people that are more than willing to mail you a cd or dvd which save you the schlep of a long download and waste of expensive bandwidth.

But don't you love it when guys try to do things for themselves.
