ISP Copyright infringement warning email

It's scary at how inaccurate it is. I torrent lots of Linux distros without vpn and it never picks up what I DL accurately at all. Suppose that's dynamic ip?
Torrenting regular stuff like that makes sense, but otherwise it's an often unreliable way to get files these days anyway. Not a lot of people still supporting it.

They are already getting 1-Star Google Ratings on their web page due to their insufferable holier-than-thou attitude.

Must be Survivor. CBS likes sending notices for that

Even Telkom never sent me a Copyright notice for over 20 years of torrenting. These clutchplates and rockspiders at Computer Hut are kwaai naais.

Did she download Star Trek? I did once with Star Trek and Paramount sent me this same email years ago. I simply told them unfortunately there is no Star Trek in our country and all my friends abroad was raving about it, and I wanted to see before I bought the DVDs from Amazon. They left me alone after that.

All I ever get from Telkom is a bill. I think they just laugh this off.

“According to Snyman, an act of appropriation has two elements in that the thief deprives the lawful owner or possessor of his property and then himself exercises the rights of an owner in respect of the property,” said Bhagattjee.

When downloading a copy of a movie, the actual owner of that movie is still technically in possession of it and is not deprived of the original copy.

“It can possibly be argued that the owner has been deprived of his exclusive right to the incorporeal property and that his incorporeal property right has been diminished by the unlawful copy, however, this point has not been developed in our law as yet,” Bhagattjee stated.

She also noted that under the Copyright Act, it likely won’t be an offence to simply download something.

This is unless it is subsequently distributed for purposes of trade or to the extent that it is distributed such that it “prejudicially affected” the owner, said Bhagattjee.

Downloading alone may therefore not technically be unlawful appropriation, and would not trigger the provisions of the Cybercrimes Act.

Playin' devils advocate here but, when you download a Torrent, there's a mighty good chance you act as a Peer (share pieces to others) once you have a good enough chunk of file pieces.

Not surprised. I've seen quite a few confirmed-free offers for Star Trek series.

I know in the EU its not a crime to download a content. Its however a crime to distribute and sell the content. That's similar to my previous post.

I am surprised the mods haven't deleted this thread yet where My Broad Band members are openly discussing piracy. This would never have happened in the old days when rpm was still running this gig
Apparently you can talk about anything on here now. Surprised the MyBB classifieds hasn't become the new Silk Road.

Just use Y-T-S

When the Telkom guys came to activate my Openserve Fibre, they advised me to download from Piratebay.party since it has the most seeds and peers on their files.

I was like wtf, they were like heh heh, do you have some cooldrink for us?

Which means at worst you are guilty of conspiracy to commit copyright infringement.... because to be wholly guilty of it you must share a complete copy not just fragments.

I have helped cops pirate in the past.....

Yep, I think that's why torrents are considered more of a problem.

Hmm I'd say that discussion of torrenting is in itself not a forbidden subject or something criminal. There's a lot of legal software on torrent sites nowadays.
