ISP Copyright infringement warning email

I was wondering about this, OP must check that in the email the ISP forwarded the warning, they haven't CC'd the sending company.

I've seen an ISP do that in the past, and they basically just shoot your privacy out the window because now they revealed the user (email, full names) of the IP on that day to the company sending the treats by including them in the mail trail to the user.

Have to wonder how far any of us may ever get trying to deal with something like this in a SA court..

Good day
My little sister has received an email from her ISP who forwarded her an email from an agent representing Paramount Global companies CBS Broadcasting Inc. She downloaded a series episodes for my mother from a torrenting site and they picked it up.

I have checked their region and this ISP has sole monopoly in their area and they can not change to a more chilled ISP. Any advise? VPN the only option?

XoXo
Hi

Looking at similar post on computer hut's page, the reply did clarify some of the misconception.

*It is not computer hut threatening people.

*Computer hut does not track what you do on the internet.

*They don’t mind you downloading torrent, they just want you to know that some entity knows that you download something that might me illegal.

*It is best for yourself and computer hut that you anonymise your torrent traffic.

* Unless ordered to do so by a South African court, computer hut doesn’t have to take any action

I do feel it is good that they did relay this message as you are now aware that some entity can track what you download, therefore can take the necessary actions to avoid it.

Some torrent clients have a block list feature, this will help you not connect to peers that track your information.

VPN is the safest option.

You can always contact computer hut’s support discuss the best options as they are on your side with this.

While I can sympathise with you guys since you seem to be a nice ISP, just trash those copyright e-mails like Telkom does.

It is something that might affect your profit margin if customers feel uneasy - they might move to LTE or whatever. I know I for one would certainly migrate away from any ISP that harasses me with e-mails about this, since it is a legal grey area here in ZA.

Yeah, I am sure they are just doing their due diligence and covering themselves.

Good on you guys for actually making an effort to come here and address this issue.

If you expand to Durban I will certainly be inclined to avail myself of your services.

I made sure to check this as the first thing, they did not CC them. So all good
