Organisation that supported South Africa's Internet revolution turns 30 years old

The Internet Service Providers’ Association of South Africa is celebrating its 30th anniversary since it was founded by nine of the country’s earliest commercial ISPs on 6 June 1996.

ISPA’s founding meeting was attended by David Frankel of Internet Solutions, Jon Oliver of GIA, Mark Todes of Internet Africa, Steve Corkin of Sprint, and Ant Brooks of Future Foundation.

I wish they had never bothered as the Internet ruined countless lives. We lost the ability to punch each other in the face and instead insulted each other online. I personally lost a girlfriend over a drunken Facebook message when I should have just told her in person.

We lost video rental stores due to Netflix. We lost the soul of physical media and actually owning your games and downloaded everything. We lost the joy of playing games with each other on the same TV and fighting when things went wrong.

I daresay Trump would not been elected twice or even once without social media culture and the proliferation of fake news.

And now there are people here seeking to ruin the tranquility of rural living with Starlink and what have you. Cancel your Internet access now.
