ISPA wants Local Loop Unbundling commitment from ICASA

But the real problem with what you are suggesting, and why LLU is highly desirable, is the cost and time factors - it will take a very long time to build a fixed line last mile solution to consumers' homes and that means very few customers paying a very high price to cover the costs associated with rolling out more of a last mile network, and very few South Africans would be prepared to pay such high early adopter prices.

Much more cost effective IMO to go the LLU route and build from there...

hmm valid point, which means we are still left to the mercy of the beast...

Yep, especially for true broadband applications - like multiple HD IPTV channels - which really don't have a chance of working properly on the [currently commercially] available wireless broadband networks.

Just another reason why wireless broadband technologies have been rolled out in South Africa by Telkodemonopolies' competitors - waiting for LLU is not a good business case if one has been allocated a licence to use [preferably low frequency] RF spectrum.

Unfortunately for consumers, only !CASA allocates RF spectrum and dishes out licences to use RF spectrum, and !CASA is a complete and utter mess, so the number of wireless competitors is limited even though there are several hundred [VANs] with the relevant [converted to ECA] licenses that could compete if only !CASA got its spectrum mess sorted out...
