I see there is a few treads about downloading on iBurst and P2P.

I was doing well for the last few months, tweaked Azureus, and I was getting up to 60-70Kbs at some stages, depending on file, time of day and who was online.

NOW! has iburst tightened up the screws or should I say glued the lid down, because the last few days, about a week, it has been realy BAD.

Does anyone else have general speed problems on IBurst or is it JUST Peer-2-NoPeer.

They aren't admitting it, but it seems like they have somehow blocked p2p traffic.

So much for the "shaped" service we signed up for.

Make sure you complain on hellopeter.com.
 
This has been talked about a lot... It only applies to JHB, making it look like a proxy problem and not an intentional block. I guess it could be iBurst using the proxy to block JHB simply because they can, but it doesn't sound like it.

Why not give them a call or complain to them and force them to give you a explination rather than complaining on hellopeter. Is anything being done from the Hellopeter complaints?
 
Try the following - might allow you to download quicker:
1.) Download and install µTorrent (if you don't have it installed already): http://www.utorrent.com/download.php
2.) Run µTorrent
3.) The "Speed Guide" will appear - just click "Use Selected Settings"
4.) Select "Options" - "Preferences"
5.) On the left side window which appears, click on "BitTorrent".
6.) Change the "Outgoing" setting under "Protocol Encryption" to "Forced"
7.) Click "Apply"
8.) Close preferences
9.) Close uTorrent and open uTorrent again
10.) Open a Torrent file and see what happens...

Heh, Protocal Encryption doesn't work properly with ibursts NEW jhb settings I'm afraid. Tor and Privoxy also give endless problems with uTorrent and Bitcomet (constant complaints that it's giving only an IP addy....but since when do torrents function on a hostname level?!)

Only solution is to bitch and moan till we get a solution.

My complaint is currently at supervisor level....so that means they'll tend to it sometime next decade.
 
I also got the same problem with Iburst and I also want to use uTorrent and p2p and also complained.

But this long weekend I dont have a problem and got great speeds now.

Indeed, and as I mentioned elsewhere, Tor slows down my machine due to the abovementioned problem and the speed is not great.

Clipse, if you are reading this, we all need PayVPN badly right now

Using a VPN does not circumvent this problem. At least, it didn't for me.
 
What we need ISNT VPN.

What we need is iBurst to sort this out.

Nothing less, nothing more. Making alternative solutions only lets them think it's fine to let things remain this way.

Privoxy is meant to be an Internet anonymizer and the IP addy complaints is just an anonymity problem not an actual P2P or torrent problem. You'll notice when browsing the Internet via Privoxy it blocks certain java and javascript files that could pass your info on to another server...

I really doubt that the P2P problems can boil down to a proxy server, proxy in theory should only handle web traffic so that it can cache popular pages etc. etc. I reckon iBurst is using a Packeteer or Allot box to shape the traffic as they see fit. Currently, in Gauteng, P2P traffic is obviously not fit...

I currently download all my torrents by SSH'ing to my webserver in the UK (we don't know net speed here.. damn that thing is fast) and then downloading the file from the website.... and before ANYONE asks, the answer is NO. No you cannot use my server sorry ;)

Ja, and then sit with pot-luck and slow torrents. No thanks. I want my VPN. At least with that thing I could download 5 torrents at a time.

Yes we all know the torrentflux deal. Look for threads by a forumite known as Slimothy, he did that ages ago. I would do it myself but my budget does not allow for hosting packages right now. And besides it's a matter of time before overseas ISP's start calling you on AUS/TOS violations. I know of someone who used to do this and they terminated his hosting because of TOS violations.

No-one is saying it's the proxy server. The problem is that there is a block on p2p traffic at present, and iBurst refuse to comment on it.

It will only be a AUP or TOS violation if I download illegal content. Valid torrents are acceptable usage.

This is what service providers in this country must start to accept. Not everything on P2P network or in torrent storms are considered illegal. Thankfully we got a monopolizing company in the form of Telkom who can shield us from the big bad Internet... they're like the dude who put the stars on the nipples back in the days of Scope magazine!;)

What's next? Block access to www.hellkom.co.za coz they're a bunch of heretics and doom mongers? I feel like I'm in downtown Beijing...:rolleyes:

I actually have a close friend who emigrated to China. You cannot compare our freedoms or lack thereof with the kinds of freedoms the Chinese enjoy. Have you actually been to China?
 
Aye but only in CAPE TOWN...so umm...those of us not there won't really be super mchappies about the news I'm afriad.....
 
I tried to download a torrent via the "tor" method.

Works.

Not as quick as it used to though. Also adds quite an overhead.......
A 700 Mb file with a share ratio of 0.1 (....yeah, I'm ashamed) set me back over 1050 Mb. That's about 40% overhead?
