iSquashed P2P

Aah yes.. good times :D

Are you? I'm having a hard time getting through that extra 500mb :p

1.6GB remaining, that might change soon though...

Im still battling, dumb retart at iburst says im not the only one with this problem so i must chill, i was hoping his phone could slap him with a rotten fish that is how stupid he was....

I think P2P is supposed to be dead after you are capped, not totally sure though, I've never tried torrents while I'm capped. But a few P2P clients wouldn't really get any sort of a connection.

It's not supposed to be dead when you're capped.

No matter what anyone says p2p in jhb is not functioning how it was functioning before.

Well the only P2P I use is unshaped anyway, but DC and torrents do work after your cap I guess, but Kazzaa and Shareaza wouldn't connect last time I tried. You're probably right though., I didn't try too hard those P2P's are terrible.

Does anyone know whether Iburst intends to completely block P2P?

Torrents used to work post cap. For me it was the best time to dl torrents slowly but surely.

Torrents are now completely fscked.

but I doubt it personally
Why do you think so? This is a company that blocked port 25 outgoing mail in the name of "spam avoidance" not realising the spammers are so far ahead of them anyway.

Just because they haven't blocked anything for me yet and it would be stupid, no one else blocks P2P except some of the uncapped ADSL accounts.

Their policy is still just to throttle, and they'd have to publicly change that... so I guess we'll see.

From your profile you are in CTN. The block doesn't yet apply in Cape Town as far as we know but it certainly DOES apply here in Jo'burg mate.

it would be stupid
Don't under-estimate them my friend. This is not the first time they've done something stupid.

Ja, I did mean Cape Town, we've mentioned it before.

Have they still done nothing about it? They aren't saying that it should be blocked so they really should acknowledge it as a problem then.

Yes they do, I queried about C&C3's P2P multiplayer and the overall reply was that they could not unblock P2p for a single application. I am over my cap so throttled services are definitely 100% blocked P2P. Not sure about those below the cap.

Good Day

Thank you for the feedback.

I have confirmed with the Network Department and there are no issues at the moment with regards to p2p.

The degree to which these maximum speeds are attained depends on the quality of the signal which is influenced by several factors:
The distance you are from the nearest base station. Whether there are obstructions between you and the base station .How many other people are connected via your base station .The speed at which you are travelling .Additionally, the speed of access is greatly influenced by all the normal Internet factors such as the speed of the server you are communicating with and the speed and usage levels of the links that the communication is going over.

Throughput is linked to the quality of signal returned to the base station (not volume of signal).
The base station allocates you throughput according to the signal you give back to the base station (daytime use).
After hours when the base stations is not in prioritizing phase it will actually allocate more throughput than the return signal justifies.

If you are using an external antenna, have the alignment to the base checked, if you do have an external antenna try moving the modem (via Ethernet to a window facing the base station).
If moving of the modem is not possible contact our call centre to log a ticket and we can send a technician out to check your setup and maybe advise on an antenna.

I recieved the exactly same worded email from Lebohang WEEKS AGO but you know what's really funny? I was persistant and then he sent me an email telling me they DID CONFIRM there was a problem and a week after that he acted like there wasn't ever one at all.

I don't know what's going on at iBurst HQ but either it's substituting fat for braincells or something.....something far more sinister.

*lightning strike in background*

Bajohn can you forward that email to me that I can quote it for him.
Maybe we will get a different reaction then
