Israel's war on the Arabic language

14 years of flouting a court order regarding this, and the headline doesn't match the story?

The country of Israel isn't doing it, certain people or parts of Israel are. In your 14 year example, it's the city of Tel Aviv failing to comply with an order from the Supreme Court of Israel.

If it was Israel at war, the laws would be changed and there wouldn't be any opportunity to take it to an Israeli court.

A bit like when the KKK or a southern town of 1960s USA discriminated against blacks didn't make it "USA's war on blacks".

And in the article it clearly states:

According to the leaders of Israel's large Palestinian minority, Tel Aviv's policy reflects a more widespread antagonism towards Arabic, despite its official status as the country's second language.

Oh come on. This is "war" like the war on drugs. It doesn't refer to actual armed conflict, and I don't think you interpreted it that way at first either.

This is a bit more widespread than a town or two if 48% of Israeli Jews are in favour of expelling all non-Jews, isn't it?

Oh dear in before the mental gymnastics by the pro Israeli forum members.

I wonder, will any of them be decent enough to condemn people being racist?

so if I dont speak afrikaans or zulu I'm a racist?

its Israel, learn Hebrew or GTFO

So the fact that it's an official 2nd language in the country counts for nothing? The government shouldn't abide by its own legal policies?

Im going to sit this one out and have a good chuckle from the sidelines at the responses from the pro Israel camp spin doctors.

Arabic is an official language of Israel .
Israel is becoming more and more like Nazi Germany is the early thirties .

yeah, obviously counts for jack ****.

now cry me a river for 30 pages.

Never understand these Israeli/Palestinian shouting match threads.

1. Are you Israeli/Palestinian?
2. Do you own property/run a business in the afore mentioned?
3. Have you ever lived in the afore mentioned countries/territories for a prolonged period of time?
4. Do you still live in the afore mentioned countries/territories?

If you answered no to above mentioned why does anyone give a flying %$#% about the above mentioned countries/territories?

Maybe if anything in the article suggested that Arabs had any reason to experience actual fear for speaking Arabic in public we would ignore the hyperbole and discuss the discrimination. I'm certainly not going to call it racism, any more than I would call not seeing Zulu on a road sign or document in SA racist.

When the anti-Israel brigade stop coating everything with a thick layer of BS, I might consider examining what they have to say for validity. I shouldn't have to sift through their rhetoric for truth.

Why would I do that?

That Israel's pervasively hostile attitude and discrimination against its non-Jewish population and your utter disregard for its reality is all I'm really interested in establishing here.

Israel sits in denial about its own racist policies. Exposing that for all non-partisan people to see is all I'm really after. They'll see Israel's atrocities for what they are after that.

Explain to me how 48% of Israel's population wanting all non-Jews forcibly expelled to you means that the non-Jews have no cause for actual fear.

Note the Jewish publication reporting the results, which the article properly linked to.

No one's sugar coating anything, you're just in denial. The longer you stay in denial, the longer you fail to address the real problems that threaten to destroy Israel.

But I thought you were not anti-Jew?

I don't doubt there is a lot of antagonism and prejudice towards the arabic-speaking populace. But then, haven't many of the Arabic nations around them expressed a yearning to wipe the nation of Israel off the face of the earth? Or Arabs launching rockets indiscriminately at civilian populations? Pulled out knives and attacked people walking in the street?

Yes - Israel has committed many atrocities as well. Quite frankly, all I see is hatred between the two groups. Neither are right. But just focusing on the one viewpoint does show where your interests are. No matter how much you deny it. Which is just another reason I do not respect anything you have to say.

But I thought you were not anti-Jew?
It's in the interests of all Jews (and people) to live in a stable state that sees after their well-being without risking their destruction. Whether they can see that or not is irrelevant to the truth of it, and those that do realise the truth of it are more likely to stop themselves from doing something stupid.

I mean, if I really wanted Israel gone, watching it implode in a ball of hatred would be the way to go, no?
