I have a PC with a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 670 OC graphics card. Yesterday afternoon while working on the PC (buys browsing) my monitor just went black. Switching the monitor off and then on again restored things. A couple of hours later the same thing happened again. My power settings are set to never let the monitor go into sleep mode.

Anyone have an idea what could cause this or experienced the same? Temps on the card seems to have been in the 39-42°C range, so I doubt it's overheating. (Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit if that helps).

Not yet. I want to first see if I can replicate it on this PC. I know it was extremely humid yesterday so not sure if that could have played a role too.

It's going to be tricky if the issue isn't recurring.

Hopefully someone can give you a reason why it happened.

The closest I ever had to this type of problem involved a semi-loose cable and a playful cat.
I doubt if this your problem (it is pretty easy to trouble-shoot), but just to be sure, check if you have any of those two laying around your PC.

As a matter of fact we do have a cat roaming around. I've unplugged and plugged the cable back in. I think that might have been the problem after all, since the problem hasn't reoccurred yet.

Looks like I spoke too soon. Over lunch I left the PC on only to return to another black screen.

I've installed the newest Nvidia drivers in a hope that might help.

I neglected to say that the monitor I'm using is a Samsung T260.

Do you have an integrated GPU on your motherboard or CPU?
Connect your screen to that GPU and leave it for a while to check if it is your graphics card or screen that is the culprit.

After some extensive testing it looks like it's my Samsung T260 that's giving up the ghost. It worked reasonably well even with the issue, but today it just keeps shutting down after a couple of minutes.

:(

Nice screens those. Only reasonable 16:10 of the same resolution is the Dell U2412M 24" at around R2,900. eIPS panel.

Check using other interface to see if problem persists. By example if using VGA, switch to HDMI.

Already done. And yes, problem persists using HDMI. Switched cables, power cables, used on another PC with different GFX card, PSU & OS. Does it there too.

If it does it on another PC then you've answered your own question. The monitor is giving up the ghost. Time to save up for a new one.
