Since I can remember I've been going straight to the iStore for my Vodacom phone upgrades, it's always been a very pleasant experience, quick in, quick out, trade in the old device all in one go.
This time I thought I'd try the online upgrade application.
So I apply online, upload the ID, choose the network, phone and also my preferred iStore (the one I always go to which is closest to me).
I get a mail, thank you for your application, we'll contact within 24 hours. Two days later after still hearing nothing I contact them via the website live chat. Oh sorry sir the phone is out of stock, ok no problem but didn't you think you should probably inform me of this, oh yes sorry sir we'll have stock in 4 to 7 business days.
8 business days later I try online chat again, you said you didn't have stock and that it would take 4 to 7 business days, today is day 8, what's up? Oh we received stock last week already, ok but why didn't you contact me for the upgrade then, oh yes sorry sir I'll get someone to call you within 24 hours to proceed with the upgrade.
10 minutes later someone calls me to confirm the contract type etc. she'll send me a contract to sign and then we can arrange delivery etc.
This was late yesterday afternoon and since I'll be going away next week I thought it would just complicate things in terms of delivery so let's go in to the iStore today to complete the upgrade.
Rock up at the iStore, show them the contract mailed to me, we can just print and complete this one sent to me yesterday right? No sir we'll have to start all over. Ok fine let's start all over, what network, what contract, what phone, sir the phone is out of stock. Ok but 2 days ago you told me it's in stock and one has already been allocated to my name, yes sir but that was online application, this is in store application. Ok WTF so what about that phone you allocated to my name / ID number? No sir it's in Sandton, ok but why did I have to select this store as my preferred one when I applied, just in case you need to come in sir.
Ok fine can we complete all paperwork right now while I'm in store and then you just deliver the phone coming from Sandton to my house tomorrow or when ever? No sir we can't do that, the phone must first be in stock in our store before we can complete a application.
WTF so now I'm bac, I'll just complete it online. Maybe going to a Vodacom shop would have been less painless after all.
