Um, no... but most new cars do.
2ndly... They already have a name. It's called a traffic light.
Do you call everything that fits that criteria a robot?
(PC.. DVD machine.. Wife.. Satellite.. UPS.. )
I'm with the OP on this one - calling Traffic Lights, Robots, drives me nuts!!
"...and at the 2nd Robot, turn left"
"What!? You mean Traffic Light, right?"
"er...yes, sorry"
Yes even in Afrikaans: Robot ≠ Verkeerslig
Why would we have words like "Traffic Light" and Verkeerslig?
No barbeque argument from me, a braai is a braai
But, hey, words like Traffic Lights and Traffic Circles have been around for quite some time...
If you've been exposed to traffic light (expat perhaps) then it would grate. Even an extended stay abroad might trigger it. However it's as normal as "braaivleis" to Saffas. (cue the barbecue argument)
As has Robot...
and its the local dialect.... deal wif it..
If you're going to be pedantic, be consistent. It's "Secondly" ...
What ever happened to the decimal comma as in R1,50 (one Rand fifty)? I could swear that it used to be the standard in SA. Mind you, I prefer the decimal point. I also prefer traffic light.![]()
Wow and i thought i was anal.
If you want to argue semantics we can't exactly go around calling a barbeque a braai then can we. What is a braai?
No, the term braai is used by ALL South Africans.
I am so tired of people referring to a Traffic Light as a Robot (In english and Afrikaans)
It's not a robot, as it doesn't move! (Unless some drunk student makes it move with his car)
So when you speak to someone who is english you say barbeque?
dont forget its Trousers not pants.
