IT salaries: Age & Experience

Please add info here! Like the companies those amounts with HR contact numbers as I work for a major IT company in SA and can tell you that most of that figures are way off! I have been in IT for 4 years 3 years of working with Cisco Networks and im telling you clearing R240k a year if im lucky! Not even talking about 25k pm for 3-5 years of exp...... never going to happen

I was just offered a job where the increase is between my current pay and what they're offering is more than that...

It seems I'm due for a MASSIVE increase next year. :D

But seriously, the numbers seem on the low side. But they are avarages after all...

wow, my boss is a real SCROOGE!

are these cost to company figures?

Well theres a good idea, yeah, please list the companies that pay these salaries so we can forward our CV`s :D

I also think these salaries are mostly Jozi salaries with the occasional Cape Town guy.

The problem I found with being underpaid now is that most companies won't offer you near what they advertise the position for. They are not prepared to pay even entry level of the advertised position. You are lucky to get a 20-25% increase, even if not disclosing your current salary. They’ll just find another candidate that does disclose his salary and bang, gone is your opportunity.

I can look as good as any candidate on paper and sell myself even better, but the person interviewing you does not know you or your situation or experience from a bar of soap. Yet his discretion has more value for the company you are interviewed at.

SA companies = Capitalism.

People are the most valuable resource and companies who want to add to their bottom line should start realising that looking after your people exponentially increases your bottom line.
