IT salaries: Age & Experience

Thanks RPM, every time you post these IT salaries I die a little more each time. :)
I must say that these salaries look very high - I don't know if the group which completed the survey is representative of the local IT population... If they are I must speak to the boss :D

Maybe I'm just not in the elite club, but a lot of my friends don't even clear most of those figures - and some of them are high up. But I suppose there are only a handful of organisations that can pay that well.

I tend to agree they seem rather on the high side ... I know many people in IT and the only people I know who are earning close to the salaries mentioned for the given experience/field are employed (in good positions) in the UK.

Imagine all these salary articles could be one article instead of being spread across 4-10 different articles.

mmm good to see techies are better payed than managers seems i should stay technical after all...

I think MyBB is obsessed with the "What you should be making" articles. The frequency is becoming a bit absurd.
Maybe they can find some other, maybe more relevant news to report on. Look at the other online Tech / Web / SA e-zines and news site for some ideas.
This is just getting tired.
Its as if they want to hold an ANC rally or something.

My God, I wish I got that kinda pay in technical. 10 Years + experience here and no where near earning apparently what I should be.

In East London, unless you work for guavamunt or one of the few big corps here, almost every single IT guy here earns between R4000 - R15000.

If you dont like it.. dont read it? Self control in life is important.

a managing exec or director with 3-5 years experience only earns R570k ... thats seem very low to me ...

see everyone saying the salaries and packages are high .... i see them low ... what am i missing here ... maybe you guys are referring to pm salaries! lol

well, i have 7 years experience, and am earning less than someone with 0 years experience, i tend to feel or this article is way of, or i am being scr#wed, not to mention my other friends in IT, most of them earning half of what i am making, does anybody here need a senior support engineer?, i have 7 years experience and will just do about anything for 20k a month.... (and i am serious), i work my butt of and cant even say i am earning half of what i should be earning

What these type of articles dont address is the availability of IT jobs in the various categories. In these times, that sort of information is just as important.
Anyone looking for Junior System Admin/Linux Engineer/anything entry level? Willing to learn anything. Will work for less than R139,000

I also feel those salaries are way out of line... What would be interesting to know, is what companies pay those sort of salaries, as I think im going to apply there tomorrow!

I have a feeling only a few companies can afford to pay those salaries to their junior guys. Too bad there aren't many in Bloem, with only PWC coming to mind, who DID give me a call after having sent them an email with some queries, apologizing that they can't hire me due to things pretty much being frozen until the economy's recovered a bit more.
That really sucks, as I'd love to have worked there and I reckon I'd actually earn what I see myself as being worth.

I have to agree with adamr here - those salaries don't seem that much out of line, for Gauteng at least...

At least I am earning what I should be in according to the Years of Experience table... A happy thought for the day :)
