Job description
The successful candidate will be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of a datacentre, server hardware, software, and related infrastructure. This individual will be accountable for Linux and Windows systems that form the critical infrastructure on which the core software runs.
Location
The position is based at our offices in Cape Town CBD.

The successful candidate will be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of a datacentre, server hardware, software, and related infrastructure. This individual will be accountable for Linux and Windows systems that form the critical infrastructure on which the core software runs.
Location

Engineering and provisioning
- Maintain existing systems and ensure operating systems are up to date and configured correctly in accordance with the standards established within the organisation.
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
- Provision new systems as necessary, and ensure that these systems can be maintained in a sustainable and automated, or semi-automated, way.
- Perform system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. Respond to automated alerts when necessary.
- Ensure daily backup operations are running as expected, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up.
- Respond to support requests from both within the company and clients of the company. Investigate and troubleshoot issues where possible. Escalate issues if needed.
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate the impact of such failures. Ensure redundancy and stock of spare components on site.
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities and scripts. Configure/add new services as needed.
- Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
- Maintain data centre environmental and monitoring equipment.

Requirements
The successful candidate will have…
- Experience or knowledge of administration techniques for both Microsoft Windows- and Linux-based systems. Experience with Ubuntu Server- or Debian-based distributions would be advantageous.
- Experience with scripting tasks on both Linux and Windows platforms, i.e. PowerShell and Bash scripting, or equivalent.
- Experience with networking technologies and protocols, including TCP/IP, IP subnetting, routing and switching.
- Experience in configuring and maintaining managed switches and routers, advantageous.
- Experience in utilising automated provisioning or configuration management technologies, beneficial.
