Then Spain may as well take credit for American accomplishments. I've never seen someone reason in this manner on this forum before.

Spain take credit for US accomplishments? How?

You obviously don't know how strongly traditions affect game play. Italy, Germany, France, Spain, England, Argentina, Brazil are teams with the strongest tradition of football. Pitting Australia with a tiny population vs a country with a strong football tradition and 80-100 million people is like a David and Goliath battle and the result was to be expected There was no Almighty to intervene here. Germany vs Brazil or England will be a more worthy match. Australia vs Korea would also be a worthy match.

The opposite is true as well - Germans don't play cricket or rugby in any significant numbers - it would take a generation or two to get them up to Australia's level. Would you expect a German rugby or cricket team to be the next champions? Hardly.

You brought cars into it BTW. Stay on topic and don't criticise other peoples' logic before looking at your own.

PS: if you want to talk about derailment, then you shouldn't have brought cricket and rugby into it.

Oh and SA isn't the best of footballing nations (heck the Aussies are ranked higher), but there is still a strong following and culture here. That doesn't necessarily turn us into Goliath.

Firstly, England is not GERMANY and secondly, soccer is more popular in the States then YOU might think! Keep in mind, the population of US is huge. Although only 10% are interested, that's like the entire population of Australia :D. And concerning tradition, do yourself a favor and read a bit about the history of soccer in the States. LOOK at the previous worldcups. Clearly YOU will learn something. Wikipedia is a good place to start. And lastly, PLEASE do not see my comments as a insult or anything like that! I love the sport and I want to make aware as many people as possible, of soccer related facts.
 
A curse?

I thought the opening games were all pretty tight games so naturally in tight games you get 0's 1's and 2's. How often do tight games in leagues finish 3 or 4-0?

Hardly any of the really really good teams have played rubbish apart from last night, so there was never a curse just very competitive games with no 3/10 or 1/5 favorites. The goals will come when poor teams get smashed by the far superior teams.

Either there were insulting intonations in that message, or your caps button broke everytime you spelt "YOU".

Secondly, we were comparing England and USA because of the obvious gulf in the love of that sport, not Australia and the USA. While the US might have a large population etc, the tradition of the sport between the two countries has to be obvious to you.

Thirdly, if the difference in Australia's quality in football and USA's is so great, why are there only 6 places separating them in the FIFA rankings?

Lastly, you need to stop calling it soccer, if you love the sport so much. It's football.
 
You haven't seen New Zealand play yet so why complain about a few goals being scored.Not complain but predict.
New Zealand will top their group!

someone teach OP about stats and distributions. just because 2010 conveniently has 0, 1 and 2 doesn't mean it's cursed. If you look at most football games, it gets more statistically improbable that the scores will end higher rather than lower. i.e. you're more likely to see 0, 1 or 2 goals than 7, 8 or 9 [per side]. Think of it this way, 1987 would've been a 'cursed' year if everyone was scoring 7, 8 or 9 goals a match, only problem is, it's much more difficult (and unlikely) to score those goals than no, 1 or 2 goals. The fact that they are draws though, is statistically independent of that. It intrigues me as to how many of the matches ended as draws.
 
most soccer matches end in 0 1 or 2 ... so saying it is a curse is borderline retarded.

thats like saying in the super 14, all the teams where cursed in 2010, cause they mainly scored more then 0, 1 or 2 ... dur.
