After yet another weekend with sub 5k speeds, after seven months I have decided to end the Neotel Prime Unlimited account I have.
I just cannot handle the crap anymore.

I don't want to have to know a stupid call center number out of my head because I phone it so much.
I don't want to have to try and crowbar answers out of a clueless call centre agent.
I really don't want to have to reset the stupid device the whole time.
I don't want to have to "tweak" the areal here and change some stupid setting there, just to be able to browse MYBB. never mind actually download something.

I have also canned them today. I really didn't want them to suck this badly but they are even worse than sentech. The thing is that I don't even have my telkom line installed yet and I would rather use my cell for internet than be stuck with neotel

Anyway, congrats Madman88

Also Cancelled

Same here I have also dropped Neotel after 1 year and 3 Months of the most horrible service I have ever experienced.

I terminated my account and my service was discontinued at the start of this month, I just could not use it anymore, this last month I could count the number of times I connected using Neotel.

I would also much rather use my phone until Telkom Installs my line than continue with sub dial up speed and constant disconnects where I cannot even view a simple website.

I was excited the first time I got Neotel, the prospect of real competition in the market, but at this stage after months of complaining and trying to get it sorted it is clear that they are unwilling or unable to rectify any issues.

The call center is so infuriating, I cannot even describe it.

I'm sticking it out till early next year and then check out my options.

As a general phone I'm super happy with Neotel as I save a packet with the per second billings.

As for internet, well its great for downloads but thats it. Latency is bad, uploads shocking, etc.

I wish I could dump them, oh how I wish I could
wish wish wish wish wish wish

Was there any penalty involved when you cancelled? My bill have been over R450 constaly for a 299 package. This month was R1400!!!! WTF - I haven't even received my bill.

Just curious, how do you go about cancelling the service?
And what charges are involved?
I know its something like R{$DEVICE_PRICE} - R{$DEVICE_PRICE*$MONTHS_WITH_NEOTEL/24} or something ?

I've messaged Neotel, and sent an email to someone I've previously communicated with at Neotel, but neither have got back to me.

I belive it is R90 X the amount of months left on the contract.
I was going to wait out the contract but there is no way I would have stayed sane

I canceled my account by emailing them the reason why I want to cancel.
Had to make a few phone calls just to make sure they cancel it.

I was over billed 3 months in a row last year and was promised credit but have never seen that promise come true.
I haven't received my last bill yet.

On another note My ADSL is operational and its like a magical dream compared to Neotel ;)

Have to say Telkom call center has changed alot since the last time I had ADSL.
Usually took 20-30 Mins just to get through but with this application, all my calls were answered in less than 5-3 Mins and ADSL installed and working in less than a week.

I am thoroughly enjoying my brand new Afrihost account :D

I have not, nor will I pay anything for a device that I cannot use for anything else.
I am not canceling on a whim or because I don't want it.

I am canceling because they can't keep their end of the bargain. Therefore, there should be no penalty, or me having to buy a device that I cannot use. I don't mind them keeping what I have already paid. They can sell it second hand and discount it by 8 months worth of payments.

I actually think its kind of a relief for them that I have canceled.....

Agree with MadMan, Why should we pay because Neotel cannot keep the contractual speeds.

I will fight the bill if I am billed for that device, they can keep my deposit.
I do not even care about that, just feels like a big weight lifted now that I don't have to complain to the useless call center everyday.

The device and antenna is useless now, not that the antenna helped much in the first place.

Been checking out all the negative threads on Neotel.Sad to see that unsuspecting people is still being conned by signing up with them.I suppose the choice is with the individual, but is Neotel realy that bad ?

Yes... unfortunately. This will be my last week with them if they do not come right.

I really wish they had done the following:

1) Determine how many customers they could adequately support
2) Sign up those users
3) Apologise to new subscribers and tell them that their area's subscriptions are full up. Thereby making NeoTel a more desired entity, as not everyone can become a member.
4) Get people to sign up to waiting lists.
5) Use the waiting lists as indications of where they need to beef up their towers.
6) Beef up the towers where needed
7) Sign people up from the waiting lists.

That way, people PAYING THEM MONEY would always be happy, and the only people kinda unhappy would be the people that WANTED to pay them money.

Instead, they get a situation where people paying them money are unhappy and those people are putting off the other people that wanted to pay them money.

Epic Fail

I'd love to cancel, but can't just now. I'm moving within the next month or two though and will then reconsider my options. In the beginning I was pretty happy with Neotel, but the service has grown crappier as the days have gone by. What's most frustrating is the unpredictable nature of the problem. You'll have decent Internet for 1 hours and then have nothing for 20 mins, then have slow Internet for 5 mins and then be cruising at ridiculous speeds for 10. You'll be able to download quickly, but not stream anything, or stream without problem but download slowly. It's even worse than HSDPA, which I've also tried.

I've come to the conclusion that all wireless solutions are crap. Though it pains to say it, I now think Telkom probably offers the best broadband service in the country.

They always have. I'm reasonably satisfied with my Neotel Prime performance, but if Telkom's prices ever drop to something reasonable for those of us who use 45GB+/month I'll cancel Neotel in a heartbeat.

Speed Test @ 8:20 AM

But the connection has been dropping :)

Last Result:
Download Speed: 1595 kbps (199.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 400 kbps (50 KB/sec transfer rate)

No, they are not. But obviously only people who are having terrible experiences will post here.

I have been using Neoflex for the last 9 months without a problem. Speeds have been consistent this entire period, and I've hardly ever had a dropped connection. I play Tf2 online with it on a regular basis (local servers ping +- 70ms) which is not bad at all.

So yea, for the all the people who it is terrible for I am pretty sure there is an equal or greater number of people for whom it works just fine.

Hawker I actaully agree!
That's what I also said... before my connection turned to crap. Go look at my happy go lucky I love Neotel posts from March / April. Give them time to disappoint you. One day you'll go to bed with a kick ass connection and wake up with ****, and it'll never go back to the way it was.
