I've canned Neotel.

Mine was installed in 5 days and they had to send a techi to redo my line.
My old line was in shambles apparently but they replaced it and I have been enjoying that 4mb ever since :D

Ok, so I have now ended it officially with Neotel. Killed it.

After having no connection for the last couple of days I stripped this morning. There is NO WAY I am going to pay a grand for service I'm not getting, even if its the last month.

So I called up the call centre, amid furious, pointless apologizing, I eventually got the point across that its over. Right now.

I got them to stop "service" (I just vomited a little in my mouth...) immediately, and I am officially free of Neotel. Well, I still have to pay the 322.50 for the 10 days I used it ( a little more vomit) this month.

Does the Axxess uncapped only run from month to month? or can I get it for half the month. Otherwise... I FINALLY HAVE A USE FOR OPENWEB's HALF MONTH SPECIAL!!! LOL

Know the feeling all too well :p
There is good news, once Telkom is installed your blood pressure will go down

"The grass isn't always greener on the other side"

Actually its orange and rotten :D

With all this horror stories is there no legal recourse for contract holders to cancel ???
Surely Neotel are at fault and the end user cant be liable for cancellation fees seeing they are getting below par or worse service.

Ill just stick it out with Iburst a bit longer till we have adsl in our area.
Only downside i have with Iburst has been they are slower than other services available at the price.

I'd say there probably is, but I reckon most don't have the time or money to get a lawyer to study the contract, and advise if there is a solid case.

The REAL problem I see there is, that even if you do have a solid case against them, I doubt punitive costs against Neotel can be claimed to pay the lawyer, and also make your time invested in this case worthwhile or make him work harder - simply not the SA way if I'm right.
So you'll have to pay lawyer big bucks, and probably just get to keep the R1K from the useless NeoFail device, and if you're really lucky NeoFail would end up paying your lawyers' fees.

So it'll take some balls, and sacrifice too - but I do wish someone would do it, as success there would improve things immensely for everyone.

Congratulations to all those who have canned Neotel, or are about to.

I'm glad Neotel rolled out coverage to our suburb 2 weeks AFTER I got my Telkom line installed (for voice services, and later ADSL). If it was any sooner, I would have been among those people bitching on this thread.

Neotel are the biggest disappointment in South Africa's telecommunications history.

Right now, my ADSL flying with a 10GB account from Afrihost.

Check out other ADSL ISPs, like Afrihost, DigiChilli, and most notably Screamer Telecoms who are offering the cheapest uncapped ADSL bandwidth ever, and R23 per GB if you don't want uncapped.

This is true... Once your ADSL line is installed, you'll feel a whole lot better. I left iBurst (who also suck, but not as bad as Neotel) a month ago, and my ADSL is sailing smoothly, perfectly, gracefully.

But remember, your blood pressure only goes down after your ADSL line is installed. Before this, you will be stressing (not too much) with the Telkom call center, and you will be hoping that Telkom don't mess things up based on past experiences and the Telkom we used to know. They are much much better nowadays, but still have some way to go.

Just emailed Neotel to terminate my contract, they wouldn't answer the phone.

A techie told me that if my sub5kBps speeds did not improve, I could request an early termination at no extra cost. So that's what I did.

Next stop, Telkom DSL line (I never imagined saying that again) with Axxess uncapped!

Well any suggestions for peeps with no access to telkom lines? none installed in my complex, tho I dont know of many fast alternatives. screamer unlimted 1mb for R1500 wimax... tho I assume Id get a solid 100K/sec out of there??? Im getting so pissed off...start complaining and then it gets better for a bit..130k/sec speeds and then all of a sudden it sinks to 50k/sec and doesnt budge or heads down to 30k/sec. Any suggestions guys??? Id love to join the cancel neotel party so help me out!! :)

yeh life's a biatch
same situation
no access to telkom
geez these guys had such an opportunity
telkom must be reading these forums and laughing themselves silly
it is incredible how incompetent neotel are.

/me on 4mb adsl axess uncapped express =)

+1

:D I am a happier person. (mostly anyway)

According to Netlimiter I have downloaded 113 gigs this month. Only 9 of those gigs where from neotel, uptill I cancelled on the 10th. In the last 7 days I have downloaded 103 gigs, more than I was downloading in an entire month with neotel. I'm catching up right now, but when I'm up to date, it will be great not to have to cue stuff to download 24/7 just to get what I want. :D

Bah........
Wish I had the telkom option ....
+1, had no Internet access again this morning. Very slow access by the time I left for work. I'm thinking of canceling anyway and just living without Internet access altogether. What's the use if I want to smash the modem half the time out of frustration.

Might as well wait for something better to come along.
