I've decided to call it quits with iBurst.

The "Broadband provider of the year" award is the kiss of death.

Maybe they should rename it the "Too good to be true" award.

actually the award is given by the users who use iburst. When my adsl do a survey we are each given an app that collects information ect and it is compared to other users who use adsl, sentech ect.

then obviously pricing, bandwidth structures ect come into play. the best service then gets the award.

MY ADSL - assuming due to lack of a better alternative, I hope!

And also because at the time they were the best broadband providers, for that year.

Sentech was that only provider offering reasonable uncapped (high usage at least) options, and iBurst had started looking up around 2006.

Very interesting.I cancelled Iburst on the 29/04/2007 giving 1 months notice as I am also month to month.Have fax'd receipt of cancellation.Will now also cancel all debit orders with my bank as safeguard.I was also with Iburst for 3 years.

Not entirely true…

"The results are derived from live performance tests conducted by real-world users as well as testing under laboratory conditions.

A sample of South African fixed broadband users performed thousands of upload, download and latency performance tests using their broadband connections.

An algorithm was used to rate each broadband service according to various criteria, including cost, reliability, upload speed, download speed, latency, service restrictions, and technical support.

It is also based on surveys and general feedback from the broadband user community. While the final calculation is predominantly weighted toward performance, cost, and reliability; many other factors were taken into account which influenced the end result."

So if you are a realist, you can safely assume that “broadband” users had very little to do with the end result. As yet I have not come across a forum user (using iBurst) that actually participated in this “survey or general feedback” or was regarded as "A sample" or "real-world user". If you do exist please make yourself known.

I am sill waiting on MyADSL to define:

* "laboratory conditions"
* how many tests were done under "laboratory conditions / live performance tests"
* "A sample"
* "An algorithm"
* "surveys and general feedback"
* in which way was it "weighted"
* "many other factors were taken into account"

Thanks EHV, can you recall who the others were?

Gatecrasher, do you still have the "app" halicon is reffering to?

And also because at the time they were the best broadband providers, for that year.
ps. EHV Sep/Oct/Nov 2006 - was one of the worst periods for iBurst's connectivity in Cape Town's CBD as the Holiday Inn tower was seriously overloaded (Load 3) and Gardens still had issues.

Well Gatecrasher left iBurst a month or two ago. You could look through the thread to see a few more users. I'll try find it quickly..
Well its hard to spot whos actually on iBurst, and I don't think there are many : http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=52322
One thing I did remember though, and this sounds stupid, but I did the test. However not the sustained 3 day test with any application, just a few speed tests and pings.

I guess it was done earlier in 2006 though, but the general time for iBurst was better. Back then they had dropped activation charges, and made 2 day delivery promises which they kept etc. Also big expansion, and of course no competition form Sentech anymore.

Even though I seemed to have one of the better connections through 06 I was not interested in trying to prove one way or the other which provider offered the best service, to me these surveys are useless and often produce incorrect information, and as it turns out it looks like I was correct.:rolleyes:

I seem to think I was one of the users that participated in that survey. Yeah I remember the link and website I think it was.
