I've quit all carbonated drinks

I also stopped carbonated drinks- best thing ever. Now they taste disgusting. fruit juice has sugar yes, but its fructose not sucrose, so you dont get that sugar spike and sugar drop afterwards. so your energy lasts a lot longer. PnP has a really nice 70% orange juice that comes in 4 liter containers. try that. also get a water filter and once your body is used to it, you'll notice that water actually tastes sweet.

I still drink an occasional soda.

...as for coffee*, I've stopped using sugar in it. Best thing ever ;)

*bringing it down from 5 cups a day to 1 :D

Either black or I go with honey + milk, but preferably cream.

Am almost 30 (turn 27 Oct 16th) aswell so this thread serves a wakeup call for me too :).

Print out a calender and mark each day with a tick for not having any carbonated fizzy drinks and an X for failing to do so.

The more ticks you see, the more motivated you will stay in accomplishing what you want. :)

Hmm, i can't have any alcohol since last year and it isn't because i am not muslim :p.

I am really not having a hard time at all, I don't know why I didn't do this long ago! Fruit juices taste so much better anyway. Berry Blaze FTW!

you still need to manage your fructose intake

Glucose goes directly into the bloodstream and is taken up by tissues and organs to use as energy; only 30–40 percent passes through the liver. Fructose passes directly to the liver, where it is metabolized almost exclusively. As a result, fructose “constitutes a metabolic load targeted on the liver,” the Israeli diabetologist Eleazar Shafrir says, and the liver responds by converting it into triglycerides—fat—and then shipping it out on lipoproteins for storage. The more fructose in the diet, the higher the subsequent triglyceride levels in the blood.

Caffeine is really good for you, good for the brain and I believe coffee is good for the liver too, which is good for the next part. One or two beers is really healthy too. One or two glasses of red wine as well.

Hmm I drink 500 to 1000ml of coke a day and a packet of sweets and then take aways for lunch and a cooked meal for supper, I don't eat breakfast, don't exercise, and I weigh 62kg :( I guess my metabolism is ftw
Those numbers don't mean anything without stats for your body fat, muscle mass, height and other indicators of health.

I drink a glass or 2 of coke every 2-3 days or less if I go out somewhere and I don't feel like milkshakes or a hot drink like milo.

you still need to manage your fructose intake

Best thing that I have found for this is to add water to your fruit juice. Sounds silly, but 100% fruit juice is a far higher content of fructose than the same volume of the respective fruit. (1 glass of OJ or one Orange).
By adding water you help to reduce your fructose intake, it tastes a little less delicious of course, but if you cannot stand water, then this is a happy middle ground I think.

Personally I have a water filter in my fridge at home. Have about 2-4 liters of water per day, depending on my activity level. Maybe 2 glasses of Fruit juice. No hot drinks, or booze, or carbonated drinks unless I go out somewhere. Even then it is only one glass.

Some other good ways to cut sugar out of your diet. Honey. I use it on my cereal in the morning. In any hot bevvy that I need to drink if sick or something. It is so much healthier for you and is much tastier IMO. Have not had it in coffee, but then I have not had coffee since I made this change.

So unfair :(

I've never had diet rules. Ever. On anything. Oh, except I must have tomato sauce with certain foods like horrox, cheeps, and macaroni.

There is nothing wrong with having one or two carbonated drinks here and there. Same with beer one or two beers a day won't kill or do any damage. It's just most people won't stop after the second one.
If you are one of those who can't stop after say the second one, it's better to stop completely

I have lemon juice 5 days and a pepsi on the 5th day but I do consume lots of water.
My weakness is bingeing on chocolates at night when watching tv. Try to load up on water after that to balance/wash out the sugar, dunno if it makes sense.

PS, if your urine is not clear then you not drinking enough water.

There is more sugar in a glass of apple juice than in a coke. Ive cut down my coke consumption from 2l a day to 340ml :D

No, there is still more sugar in Coca Cola, but only just. There's close on 40g of sugar in a single can of Coca Cola, which equates to about 10 teaspoons of sugar, whereas there's on average between 20g to 30g of sugar in the same serving of apples juice, which is about 5 to 8 teaspoons of sugar. Fruit juices can be nearly as bad for you as Coca Cola, in terms of sugar consumption...

Caffeine is really good for you, good for the brain and I believe coffee is good for the liver too

Caffeine is terrible for sleep patterns which can have awful side-effects but there are studies showing that the caffeine itself might be good for the liver, although in hardly enough of a manner to warrant it being considered healthy. The food scientists I've heard talking about caffeine have all mentioned that while it might increase productivity to an extent, the quality of work performed on caffeine is always lower. Will look for some studies on this. Caffeine, to the best of my knowledge, is far from being good for a person at all in the quantities most people consume it at, and really destroys healthy sleep patterns as it prevents sleep, and prevents necessary REM sleep even if you manage to fall asleep. It also results in a significant drop in wakefulness when it wears off which is why it becomes a terrible, repetitive pattern...
