I've quit all carbonated drinks

Some other good ways to cut sugar out of your diet..

This is another food myth that needs to be debunked.

1 - you are not cutting out sugar - honey contains numerous sugars, in different chemical compositions to table sugar, which is pure sucrose.
2 - honey contains sucrose - don't be fooled into thinking you're cutting it out
3 - honey is what is called a super-saturated liquid, which means it contains more sugar than water - there is a ton of sugar in honey.
4 - while honey contains other simple monosaccahrides which are easier to process for our bodies, it still contains huge amounts of other disaccharides like maltose, and trisaccharides like maltotriose and, as I said, that disacharide sucrose. Still all sugars, and still not good for you as a straight swap.
5 - honey contains a wide variety of nutrition. The problem here is that nutritious value is found in very small quantity in honey, so to really get any health benefits you have to eat a lot of it, increasing your sugar in-take. Catch-22.
6 - honey is not a health food. It is just a different form of sugar, albeit with marginally better properties than pure sucrose.

Don't be fooled into believing their marketing hype - honey is not a healthy substitute as a straight swap for sugar. You're eating the same amount of sugar with very, very little added benefit...

There is nothing wrong with having one or two carbonated drinks here and there.

Well there is. Spiking your body with upwards of 20 teaspoons of sugar in a small space of time wreaks havoc with your pancreas, and causes massive problems if this becomes a daily thing. Like I've posted before, Coca Cola add phosphoric acid to keep your perception of the sweetness down. If they didn't do this, you'd perceptually reject the immense amount of sugar in the drink and you'd probably throw up shortly afterwards...

I have lemon juice 5 days and a pepsi on the 5th day but I do consume lots of water.
My weakness is bingeing on chocolates at night when watching tv. Try to load up on water after that to balance/wash out the sugar, dunno if it makes sense.

PS, if your urine is not clear then you not drinking enough water.

Choc cravings at night is a symptom of messed up blood sugar levels.Don't have carbs after lunch and stick to the low glycemic variety.

@DJ.Thanks for that honey post.Is is there any inherent dangers in consuming artificially sweetened soft drinks like Coke Zero.
Surely its much better than normal coke laced with sugar.
Or is it?

I have at least a litre of this stuff per week.

Doesn't work that way. Water will not dilute the way sugar is processed by your body. You won't simply pee out the sugars if you drink more water, unfortunately. There is a simple solution to your problem: stop buying chocolates...

Not necessarily. It is far more complicated than that. You can drink enough water and still have orange/yellow urine, depending on what else you put into your body and how your kidneys are functioning...

I also noticed that my tummy doesn't feel too good after carbonated drinks. Seems not only my problem after all.

The anti-sweetener brigade was funded by the sugar industry to protect themselves. That was until they realised that they could no longer fund scientists to publish bullschit and they bought the sweetener companies. Certain sweetners which were banned proved to be harmful, but the approved ones like xylitol, aspartame and acesulfame k are perfectly safe for us at the quantities we consume them. There are high-dose warnings but the same applies to things like cocoa, coffee and even bananas.

Drinking sugar-free drinks is far healthier for you than sugar/corn syrup sweetened drinks. Even fruit juices. But you'll need to ensure that you get your sugar from other sources, as we need sugar to survive, just hardly in the quantities of soft-drinks, colas and large fruit juices. Carbohydrates provide you with sugar. Even lactose in milk is a sugar, but not quite the correct source for energy production in the body. Sugar is found in nearly everything else we eat to some degree so you should already be getting your RDA of sugar, whether you realise it or not...

It is a gas bubble that you consume whole. Unless you burp it out, it has to come out other ways.

BTW, holding in your farts can be quite bad for you. Socially it is considered unacceptable to simply fart whenever you need to, but from a health perspective it is pretty necessary. I say fart and be smelled...

"I know that Coke, Fanta, etc are really bad for you mainly because of their huge sugar content but how do these compare to carbonated fruit drinks (Appeltizer, etc) and even to 100% fruit juices?"

I have really bad news for people who think that fruit juice is good for you - watch "sugar the bitter truth" just pure science.
Refined sugar in this case fructose is bad for you, as bad as alcohol and it gets metabolised by your LIVER just like alcohol, 80% ends up as fat and the by products produced in this are bad!! Can affect for instance your immune system for several hours.

Yes I know fruit is healthy and that simply is because the fibre stops you from having too much.

Table sugar is sucrose which is half glucose(can be used directly by every cell in your body and half fructose.

So it is not the gas - although carbonated water is carbonic acid. With coke for instance they add phosphoric acid to futher acidify to 2.5 pH that is scary but really the only way youll stomach drinking 39g sugar in a singke can :)

Now imagine what you do to a child that weighs a 3rd of your weight when you give them a can of coke - would you eat 24 tea spoons of sugar?

Didn't read the other stuff but been checking up on this stuff lately. Best thing to drink is freshly squeezed lemon (roughly 2 lemons per 250ml or 500ml).
It helps with digestion/metabolism and stops you from being hungry all the time. Also it's best to have a glass of lemon water every morning when you wake up.

The biggest problem with fizzy drinks and sweets and other such food is that the pleasure centres of your brain override the parts of your brain that tell you you are full so it leads to overeating. You shouldn't drink coke etc. fresh fruit juice is ok but keep it to one glass a day max. Also only eat fruit in the morning. One more important thing is that anything you drink should be at room temperature. Cold and hot drinks aren't good for your body.

That bit isn't true at all. The same would apply to food as the surface area is even smaller and prone to longer thermodynamic changes. Also, the temperature range at which we consume food simply isn't sufficient to change anything on a molecular level in our guts. Even if it were, the body is also a very good regulator of heat and the minor changes in the gut will very soon be brought within body temperature as the laws of thermodynamics take place, with the convection created by constant movement of stomach liquids, which is why when defrosting food, it is best to run it under a tap instead of submerging it. I do not buy this for a second...

I allow myself 250-500 (1-2 glasses) of coca-cola per day. I find I cannot drink 500ml of Coke in a short period though. I feel ill if I do.

I've given up porn, barely ever drink, LET ME KEEP MY COKE DAMMIT!

I drink a Coke Zero once a week, on a Saturday! My little indulgence.

The rest of the week is coffee, water and smoothies made from fresh fruit and jogurt.

Hmm I drink 500 to 1000ml of coke a day and a packet of sweets and then take aways for lunch and a cooked meal for supper, I don't eat breakfast, don't exercise, and I weigh 62kg :( I guess my metabolism is ftw

I weigh around 60kgs and I don't really touch sugar :D

I remember reading that if you have a finger in your arse at least once a day it helps with metabolism.
