Interesting. Are you a medical doctor? Colic looks to be in the medical dictionary.

https://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=2779

No. Are you? That doesn't look like a dictionary to me.

It's a bit like "spastic colon" in that it's a catch all for "We can't pin point what exactly is causing this...therefore it's colic" which I believe is the point he was getting to.

Often it's quite easily just diagnosed as colic for lack of an exact answer and solution.

Correct, thanks!

Hey. I have two 5 month old prem twins (34 weeks) that had severe silent reflux and regurgitation (of the violent kind). They would scream hours on end in the beginning and our pediatrician couldn't help (in fact he started prescribing a host of unnecessary medication). We changed to someone who came highly recommended and he diagnosed their symptoms immediately. We abandoned the old medication are now on a steady course of nexium and infant gaviscon for them and the difference is night and day - the endless screaming has stopped! And the vomiting has all but ceased (there are the odd surprises). So I can fully relate to your issues and I hope you heed my simple advice....

This! Bigtime...had massive issues with my daughter when she was an infant as could never keep a feed down for longer than 30mins and then projectiled it out! 2 pediatricians claimed it was colic and best we could do was sit it out and try alleviate the discomfort. Went to a different (well recommended) pediatrician and quickly she told us to give her nexium and gaviscon...BOOM completely different kid.

Good pediatrician can save your sanity

Good luck, I had to single dad and look after my wife when she had some back ops and it was tough, but looking back now it was a great bonding experience with my son.

Ask your family and friends for help, don't try and do this alone, if someone offers your help, take it!
Tell your boss whats going on, he knows your will make up the time when things get better!

anybody know where the OP is, we want updates

Work was manageable. Polly are you closterphobic?

No one is smoking near him. Hell we dont even touch him before washing hands 3 times, we wear smoking gowns and beanies to avoid smoke on our hair and clothes.

Which is why smoking is almost impossible
Do make sure to read izzy's posts a few posts back. They have twins prem with colic or so they were told.

It is good that the work day was kind to you

I concur. Colic is s catch all term. There are published medical journals saying its real and others saying its a cop out.

We are off of alfare and on novalac ah another 2 weeks then onto novalac ar. Apparently very good.

Son has been doing good and his reflux medication is finally staring to work. Ive had 2 decent nights sleep.

So did the wife and my mom with the help of a sitter.

Monday we meeting non agency night nannies so i suspect things might work out.

Wife is looking good. Not a single attack today. Son is chill, minor cramps due to being unable to burp during the 12 o clock feed.

Work gave me complamentary leave days to cover the 3 days i overshot my leave.

Feeling human again. Exhausted but human. Im sure there will be more bad nights and days but today actually feels pretty good.

From what i gather colic is a broad term. Undiagnosed reflux or spastic colon or bad gut bacteria causibg excessive air buildup in the gut.

Get your wife some vitamin D , spray or patches preferably(2000-3000 ui a day). That should improve the anxiety and depression straight away.

Yeah, that doesn't stop for about 1 1/2 years - but if thats the least of your worries then you're doing good :)

Just on this: be careful about build up in the Eustachian tubes. This will ultimately lead to more restlessness (very sore ears) and most likely grommets.

As parents we go through things with our kids that seem impossible at the time. In a week or month or 3 you look back and got through it and did that was needed to be done...

It's quiet crazy, but this too shall pass

Fantastic news :) It seems like you are starting the upwards trend - keep positive, and start putting your life together one piece at a time.

You have done excellently, and your child will be really proud. Don’t beat yourself up over any negative feelings that surfaced during these past depths - it is understandable. Well done

I’m not sure where you are based but if you’re in Sandton, I’m happy to share experiences over coffee or a beer

Upward trend until they start teething...

Um.... that a chiropractor. Not a doctor BTW.

If you want to break a babies neck then there are way more effective techniques.

There are doctors who are more dangerous than a loaded gun, but whatever blows your hair back.

Both our twins are perfectly fine (no broken necks) and those techniques made it possible for everyone to get some much needed sleep.

You've been through a lot by the tone of your post. I'm so glad that my wife and I chose to ignore the stupid "tick list" our parents gave us to measure our success. Be your own person.

And crawling, walking, climbing, smoking weed, bunking school, crack cocaine etc. long road ahead
Focus on the positive :-) not the negative. When my son was 6 months old he got Rosella which gave him a real bad case of the runs and I was at home looking after him and working. It felt like it wouldn't even end and I was just cleaning up after him endlessly and it felt like a downward spiral. But 6 years later I actually look at the other side of the coin, about me running around like a headless chicken carrying a child without a nappy to the bathroom, trying to clean up him and the floors/walls and and.

Anecdotal unfortunately, you could've taken him to a paeditrician who supplied something that didn't actually work and whatever was causing your twins to feel like they were disappeared and you'd be praising the paeditrician. You're also lucky they did come out okay, I wouldn't trust those quacks with my back.
